#Canucks officially recall Lee Sweatt. Shirokov sent back down to Manitoba.

Its pretty much the only move they can make to bring Sweatt up. Hopefully Alberts will be healthy soon and we can use that roster spot on a forward again.

That blows. Shirokov wasn't given much of a shot despite scoring more goals than Raymond, Torres, Malhotra, Samuelsson, Tambellini and Raymond in the last 11 games combined.

Hopefully once Bieksa gets back and a roster spot opens up again Shirokov will be back.

Nice. I wonder what the pairings will look like if Rome, Alberts, and Bieksa are all out next game.

Sucks for Shirokov, but not much else they could do...

If he plays, I hope they give Sweatt some 2nd unit PP time. I wouldn't mind this as a 2nd unit PP:

Sammy-Malhotra-Burrows/Raymond/Tamb
Sweatt-Ballard

Sets up two RH shot options on the left side, Manny can win the draws and provide screens.

Interested to see if Sweatt gets into the lineup or if he is insurance for an injury. The Moose could use Shirokov's offense, and I think the Canucks are aiming for their veterans to play their way through these slumps they're mired in.

Anybody but Burrows on the PP. He's been terrible and showing why AV never gave him any PP time in the past. It's just not his game.

Whaa.. I thought Burrows was one our best players last night.

or do you mean just on the pp he's been bad? I could see that.

Just the PP. I haven't had any problems with the rest of his game and he was tremendous on the PK last night.

I agree. He's only really shown himself to be an offensive player when paired with the Sedin's, and he's obviously not going to be on the first unit with the way Kesler is playing.

Cue Ballard back down to 14 minutes per game

Normally I'd agree, but I thought he's been one of the more creative forwards on the second unit the past few games.

Samuelsson must be benched.

Couldn't they have sent Volpatti back down. They were healthy scratching him the majority of the time anyways.

Unless they were planning on benching Shiro up here, and would rather he get more playing time down with the moose

Canucks needed Shrikov's cap space to get D-man Sweatt up from Manitoba in case Bieksa can't go on Monday. via @benkuzma

Edler - Ehrhoff
Hamhuis - Tanev
Ballard - Sweatt

=/

that's what I'd expect.

I like his attitude!

Not two weeks ago we had 7 healthy NHL defenseman, and worried about who to trade to fit in Salo. Now we have 4. Such is life.

Well good answers to leading questions. I liked Shiro's game in the two he played, but with all the injuries someone had to lose out and we can't just call up Sweatt from no where...hopefully Bieksa is fine and it's just a quick stint with Manitoba this time.

Why split up Ballard & Tanev? Leave them together, they've been good together. Stick Sweatt with Hamhuis, no point in making 2 new pairings instead of just needing to do 1.

Too bad Shirokov had to go down instead of Volpatti.

So that's 10 mins for Ballard-Sweatt and 25 mins for Hamhuis-Tanev and 25 minutes for Elder-Hoff? Probably more likely AV puts the vets on the top 2 pairing and flogs them till they drop.

And just recently the Moose had 9 healthy D.

This seems to fit Gillis' expressed philosophy that one can never have too many NHL capable Dmen available.
