I can almost guarantee Sather is kicking the tires on a Kaberle deal. Burke and Sather are buddies and have a history( Antropov for 2nd for example)
What would the Leafs expect back for Kaberle?
I imagine a 2nd rounder would be a starting point. I don't think the Rangers would move top young prospecs for a rental but they may add Gilroy who is playing well of late and a extra F like Christensen who is currently injured but has one more year at 1.1 million
For a UFA like Kaberle I would say a 2nd, Gilroy, Christensen would be plenty and Leafs may even have to add something. I am sure others will think I am nuts and want more , lol

How has Grachev been progressing? I watched him quite a bit when he was playing in Brampton with Hodgson etc.. As a Leafs fan the Grachev + 2nd deal sounds intriguing but at the end of the day Kaberle has said over and over he wants to stay in Toronto so im assuming thats what is going to happen.
If the Rangers can be guaranteed that Kaberle would sign as a UFA with the Rangers this is not a bad deal. Kaberle is one of the handfull of really good NHL defenseman. He has some good years left. I know nothing is guaranteed that Kaberle would sign.
Losing MDZ would hurt, but the Rangers are stacked with defenseman in the system. Also, Gordie Clark can go out and draft another gem of a defenseman in the draft next year.
