Sadly I still care about the NBA I watch every Sixers game except when the Flyers are on. Yea the Cavs are a wreck they don't have any good players that's all it is. They have a washed up Jamison and Mo Williams only looked good because of Lebron.

Yo Coach J//anyone,

Does anyone know a good age to show children how to ice skate? My niece is 2 yrs old and my sister wants to take her ice skating. She can walk/run really well probably more like a 3 year old. I'm just not sure if she's old enough yet. Any tips would be great!

I started skating when I was 3. If they can walk and you can find skates that fit, its never to young to teach them. Even if you skate while holding onto both of their hands just so they get the feeling what its like. My niece turned 4 in September and she started playing in October.

It is sleeting so bad outside right now. Anywhere from .5- 1 inch of ice. This storm is going to be an ugly one. Considering the thickness of an NHL ice surface is .75". Be careful everyone.

Oh DBR...how did you know Recreational Skating instruction is my day job? Most important thing is to make sure it's always a positive experience for your niece on the ice. Only stay on the ice for as long as she wants to. If she spends the first few times sitting on the ice or crawling around so be it.

Also make sure she gets practice walking around on skates in the lobby. Balance is the key to skating and a skate blade is 1/100th the width of a foot. If your niece has trouble balancing in the lobby on rubber flooring, i don't like her chances on the ice!

If she manages to stay balanced, use "penguin walk" or "duck walk" to emphasize the toes out, heels together motion for the first bit while she marches around. And make sure you work with her to fall safely so isn't traumatized the first time she falls.

If you want any other tips, shoot me an email.

Yes, finding skates may be hard. Double blade? Or single?

It's pretty much the same thing that happened to the Bulls after Jordan left for the 2nd time (and Pippen left too). They went from champion to 3rd worst team. This time it's only worse.

Just another reason why basketball sucks. A sport that is entirely dominated by star players. There's simply no way that a team that doesn't have star players can beat a team with one, and there is no chance that a non-star could become a hero on a team with a star player.

I actually had to cancel my dental appointment. One I really need too. Also, I wanted to get my eyes tested, see what my RX is for glasses. Mainly so I can see if I can get some glasses online (my aunt, uncle and grandmother are getting glasses from this one place). But seriously, this storm doesn't do much to me... considering I really don't friends around here and I don't have a job.

Ugh, once again, tons of snow and everything in the area is closed. Except of course for my school and my internship. Off to work...

Stay safe everyone. Ice is the worst.

It sounds as though this storm is going to be a doozy. We're supposed to get 20-30 cm (8-12 inches for the Americans) of snow overnight, with blowing snow and just all round ugly.

Yup, calling for upwards of 15 inches in Michigan.

The snow part is pretty much over. Now it's all ice until it turns to rain later tonight.

I think ice and rain are far worse than snow. I cancelled 2 dog walks tomorrow and am working on more because we're expecting 20-40 cm in the Toronto area starting at midnight

Single! For the love of god single! As for the skates...the smallest we carry in our skate shop is child size 6. Try your lOcal sporting shop. If they don't have it in stock they should be able to order it in...they might just charge you an arm and a leg.

The ideal situation would be to find a rink that carries rentals that small. I would avoid buying skates until you atop growing or start figure skating, playing hockey, etc

I can shovel snow, but I fell on the ice this morning. It's hard to do anything with a driveway that's slightly inclined and has a sheet of ice on it.

I didn't even realize how slippery it was until I was going around a slight bend on rt. 130 this morning. Barely avoided a disaster on that one, and I wasn't even going fast.
