Oz was a really good show.

Sadly I never had the time to watch The Wire.

Follow up on beer making discussion of a couple days ago. Cracked open the Nut Brown Ale I made for the first time last night, and I would say it turned out excellent (definitely a better beer than the kit Oktoberfest I made, but it was a supply store kit as opposed to mass market so that doesn't surprise me -- I also think my technique was a bit better on the boil). Not a particularly alcoholic beer (probably in the mid 4% range), but tasty and good for the season.

The Imperial Stout that I was making is currently bubbling away happily and does not appear to be at any risk to explode on me... really looking forward to that being consumable in ~4 wks. May use the leftover grain from that to start a new batch but turn it into a coffee and cream imperial and see what happens.

I've been meaning to try my hand at beer making for ages. I made mead last year, and it was amazing.

Homebrewing is definitely a hobby I plan to pick up once I've moved on from small apartment/college living spaces (perhaps homegrowing as well). My cousin started making his own beers 7 years ago with his roommates when he graduated college, honed his craft, spent the better part of 2009 between Chicago/Germany at brew schools and as of last week got hired as a brewer for Dogfish Head in Delaware. Making beer for a living seems like a pretty awesome gig, definitely a little envious.

How much would home-brewing cost you?

based on the show, Dogfish seems like a pretty awesome workplace, too.

There is start up cost in getting the necessary equipment, which really depends on what you need and how much you want to be able to do. If you search around you can find a multitude of kits.

The cost of the beers you make varies greatly depending on the necessary ingredients, but will definitely come out as a significantly cheap beer in comparison to buying finished product in a store (unless you're buying uber cheap **** beer). Recipes produce ~5 gal of beer, so you get a lot out of each batch (I've gotten about two cases when it's all said and done off the first two I've made... you lose a bit in the process).

The one on discovery channel right? I didn't realize that was the Dogfish Head guy. Haven't seen any of it, will try to check it out now.

Yep. It was OnDemand a couple weeks ago, but I don't think it was there last time I was poking around. It was only 4 episodes or so... but really interesting, and definitely seems like a great work environment (assuming you want to live in that section of Delaware -- there are worse places, but slower lower is definitely a good description).

If you're talking of the documentary "Beer Wars" I think it still may be on Netflix streaming. If you're not talking of that, recommend you watch it.

Just checked...yes it's on Netflix Streaming still.

Man... I've had such an awkward day. When I went to bed this morning (sometime right before 7AM) I only had about an hours sleep before being woken up by a stomach ache... that didn't go away for another 4 or 5 hours... so then when it went away around 1PM, I only got about 5 hours of sleep after that... so I'm kinda... meh right now. One of those crappy days I guess.

Nah, my first hangover wasn't a headache. It was if I bent over or tilted my head, I would be dizzy as hell .

Just read the latest hockey news. Has a feature in the Flyer's blue line and another one on Jeff Reese. Great read...definitely worth the buy.

They rank the top three as:
1) Flyers
2) Red Wings
3) Canucks

I know some were mentioning hockey sticks on other parts of the forum, but I'm curious, how many actually shoots left but has their left hand as their dominate hand? *Raises left hand*

So, watching highlights last night on "On the Fly". My wife decides she likes Calgary's goal horn best of the ones we heard because the interval of the two notes of the horn "created more tension". Most of the others were a major third, while Calgary's seems to be a dissonant interval like a diminished fifth. Yeah..... and I thought I was a nerd.

I have the Hockey Sounds app on my Droid. It has the goal horns (and goal songs) for all 30 teams. If you can find it, check it out.
