NY Post suggest's Habs interested in Arnott

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/rumors/p...urn=nhl-312038

According to the NY Post PG and scout(s) were at the NJ game on Sunday.

Speculation is that Philly & Washington are both interested as well.

I'd like to see him with the Habs. He brings size, grit and playoff experience. Curious to see what the asking price would be.

Arnott is not a bad idea as a 3rd line center, he has an expiring contract and would fit right in with the rest of the lockeroom IMO.

As long as we don't expect him to be more than what he is right now, a good big strong defensive center. Wouldn't want to give too much for him though.

Interesting...why not i guess.

Without Cammy :
AK - Pleky - Arnott
Pacio - Gomer - Gio
Pouliot - Desharnais - Darche

With Cammy :
AK - Pleky - Cammy
Arnott - Gomer - Gio
Pouliot - Desharnais - Pacioretty?

barring that, I can't say that I'd be too interested in giving up assets for Arnott at this point.
I'm not a fan of this group being a "buyer" at the deadline. With the picks we've already moved, I'd rather see us adding long-term assets as opposed to trading them away for rentals.

If he were to come super cheap (C-grade prospect or late pick), sure, but with other teams in the running, I don't want to see us in a bidding war with teams like Wash/Philly, who have much more incentive to go hard after a guy who could be the "final piece".

No offense but Arnott is a 6'5 right handed shooting center who historically wins 50% + of his faceoffs. He would be the ideal 3rd line center IMO

AK - Pleks - Cammy
Pacioretty - Gomer - Gio
Pouliot - Arnott - Eller
Moen - Halpern - Darche
Desharnais, Pyatt.

The pricetag concerns me. I could see plenty of playoff teams in the hunt for Arnott at the deadline. Seems like an ideal rental player.

Knowing New Jersey's system, I could see them asking for Kristo + Desharnais. I doubt we want to move more picks, and Kristo and DD both seem like the type of two-way guys that tend to thrive in NJ.

Habs should be buyers...especially if the team continues to play like this. They're better this year than last year and were able to knock off Caps and Pens. I think the Habs can beat any team in the East in a 7 game series except for Philly. Boston is tough but can be beaten. Adding Arnott (more size) is a great move IMO. More size to take on the more physical teams. Pacioretty, Arnott, Pouilott, Andrei.....that's some nice size to create space for the smaller guys.

Only thing is I think the Habs need a D-man to replace Gorges but not sure if you can fill the top 6 and D-man holes at the deadline due to the cap and also don't want to trade too many picks for rentals.

I say go for it if the team continues to gel

Makes a lot of sense. A big, strong forward who can pop in 20 goals and we should not have to give up too much in return. Just what we need for playoffs. We need to get bigger and stronger to play teams like Flyers or Bruins in playoffs. Last two playoff years those clubs have use their size to eliminate us.

Why can't it happen? Makes sense Arnott being an UFA at season end the Devils are going to get rid of him, there will be some interest that's for sure. Depending on what they want in return we should be very interested in him

God no. I've watched quite a bit of him this year and he's really not that good at all anymore in my opinion. Be it the fault of him or the team, still...

The Habs as an organization has coveted Arnott for years so this is hardly suprising.

He'd be a great rental player assuming the price is right. But I also wouldn't over-pay for him because his best years are clearly behind him.

The Arnott to Montreal rumor seem to resurface every year near the deadline. It's like a tradition or something.

That said i'm not a big Arnott fan but i wouldn't be opposed to bring him for the rest of the season/playoffs run. The guy is big , right handed , lot of experience with 1100+ games under his belt and could be a nice insurance policy/depth in case either Gomez or Plek get injured or has a prolonged cold streak.

He wouldn't be my first choice and i certainly wouldn't give too much for him but for the right price he could be an OK addition.

I approve. Although the price might soar come the deadline (a 2nd + prospect, or a 1st), I can see many teams being interested.

He's a -9 on a God awful team. Kovalchuck is a -27. He's 2 goals away from tops on the team and has less TOI than the 3 players ahead of him in points. I'd take him in a heart beat if the price was right.

On the worst team in the league, he still managed to put up decent numbers.

Personally I think it would be counter-productive to go the rental route. Without Markov and Gorges we're a playoff team, but not exactly a cup contender. You should only mortgage your future when you have all the pieces in place to win the cup right now. That said, I'm not against them making a deal--just for a player who can help this year and a least next as well. I think that Wisniewski was an example of that (i'm hoping they can re-sign him). Giving away picks again would be a backwards move imo. We already had a depleted draft last year after all...
