I really don't understand why this is being done... short of a trade where we need cap space or something, I don't get it. I doubt Conroy wants to be sent down to Abbotsford, and I'd think that management would be content to just keep him around.
The only possible thing I can think of is that ownership wants to save money, since he would get less in the A with his 2-way deal.
I dont think this has anything with saving dollars, maybe Im wrong. Im think Connie wants to play in his last year, he is competitive and didnt bust his hump to prepare for this season sitting on his derierre? Still think he ends back up here if he lands anywhere for a role in the flames, I sure hope. Make a good TSN analysit then some of those people unnamed
Rumor is that TSN contacted the Flames to see what the cost to aquire Conroy would be.
^this^ lol
probably just staying with the minor team to get some game action and help our younger guys along. If we lose a center or need another forward for the playoffs ( in the case we make it in ) I bet we see him back up.
This really does look like his last season as a NHL player and hopefully we still see a lot of him for another 14 years.
I think he would fit right in, however he is a little too nice to try and fill Richards shoes.
Nobody can fill Richards' shoes, I'd be all for Connie taking it in another direction.
Let's face it, who would say no to him? All the best information would be handed to him on a silver platter, he'd get every interview he could possibly want and his upbeat attitude would undoubtedly reduce morning road rage across the city.

Best of luck to Conroy, he is one of my all time favorite Flames. A former Flames captain and one of the classiest players you will ever see.
From what I understand his family likes it here, which will hopefully mean he will still be a noticeable and active member of the community and organization for years to come. It would just suck if it were otherwise.
There is a big difference between your buddy buddy assistant and your hard nosed head coach.
Wasn't Playfair kind of the "good cop" assistant coach, which made the transition to head coach kind of strange? That's what I read at the time anyways. He sure was better than Keenan though.
If Conroy is in fact retiring, it would nice of the Flames to dress him for one more game so the fans can say their proper goodbyes.
While some may point out, that the Flames are in the middle of an uphill battle and cannot afford to focus on anything than the sportive aspect of the game, this has my full support.
