They haven't come close to 20 games, for far worse hits. It was a joke then, and it remains a joke now.

If the league is trying to crack down on rules, etc. they need to be more consistent with suspensions. Until they become consistent, players are going to continue doing what they do IE - Cooke.

Volchenkov got 3 games for elbowing. I'm eagerly awaiting what Cooke will get. With that verdict on Volchenkov I'm expecting at least 6.

I'm surprised Volchenkov got 3 games, but I have no idea what the league is going to do with Cooke. I'm hoping it's significant, but I have my doubts.

This is why I don't trust Roloson. He can shut teams out and get pulled in the next game. Roloson is the most bipolar goaltender on the planet.
Not to mention, their defense was showing up. Turnsovers galore.

Cooke's hit was a charge and a board. Really it should be a huge suspension, but Tyutin got up right away so....

Maybe one day, players in the NHL will be able to look at the puck, because of the head rules. That would really piss me off.

Wait, Lupul got traded and Pronger wasn't involved? Or maybe that's just what Pronger wants me to think.

Anyway, poor Loops. Really tough for him. First all the back injury and now Toronto. From bad to worse really

I like Lupul as a character, but with his bad back and at 4.2 mil per he's just not worth it. If he was a free agent this summer and could be signed at about 2.2 mil, I'd be willing to take that risk. A Zherdev kind of deal.

That being said, he's really down on his luck. He's only managed to play 49 games over the last two seasons due to injury, and produced only 27 points in those.

I also think he needs a decent team around him to work. He is said to have crumbled in Edmonton under the pressure, but I think Edmonton was just a ****** team. They placed last in their division the year he was with them and fifth from the bottom in the league. And he played rather decently with us which is a big time market and the fans can be very tough on the players. However, Toronto also being a ****** team doesn't exactly help him here.

It does make sense for both teams really. I liked Lupul when he was here, hope he can get back into form (he'll face us more, and being a former Flyer thus will get a bunch of more free points).

Well, that'll certainly make him think twice about dishing out dirty hits in the future.

He had a really weird situation after his surgery though - a blood infection or something wonky like that, that put his recovery time way back.

I agree that his paycheque is too high for what he does, but I'd love to see him back here for a reasonable price.

Only 4 games for Cooke. Campbell, I am disappoint. Especially since you ****ed up and didn't suspend him for kneeing Ovechkin and thus basically let this whole thing with Tyutin happen.

Puck Daddy saying Cooke gets 4 games.

Also, Roenick isn't a fan:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl-318976

Quote:
(UPDATE: As first reported Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, a 4-game suspension for Cooke.)

Never at a loss for words or for sanctimony, Jeremy Roenick(notes) appeared on XM Home Ice's morning show today with Mike Ross and ripped into Pittsburgh Penguins winger Matt Cooke(notes) for his hit on Fedor Tyutin(notes) of the Columbus Blue Jackets last night, which can be seen here.

You can listen to the interview here, but we've transcribed his comments on Matt Cooke below, with some additional analysis. The interview began with Ross asking Roenick his thoughts on Cooke.

Quote:
Roenick: "Does it surprise you? Does it surprise you that Matt Cooke would be so ..."

Ross: "Dumb?"

Roenick: "Chicken****, and do that?

"Right from behind. Blatant from behind. Fedor Tyutin didn't even turn. Didn't move. Was standing there for three or four seconds, and he still hit him from behind."

Supposedly Hal Gill called P.K. Subban an "a--hole". Welcome to 2011, Hal.

Also, Alex Tanguay has a concussion. Flames are toast.

I haven't watched the Ducks lately. Who's been in the 4 spot? Sutton, Mara? Does FB land there I wonder. They have a number of D on the roster but I'm guessing Carlyle is not comfortable with that 4 spot. Always helps to have depth for playoffs anyways as the Canucks are finding out now.
