That's how it was last year. Big names are coming off the board earlier now because teams want to make sure they get their guy. The Flyers have always done this to avoid feeling desperate. Look at their actual deadline day trades over the past 10 years, they'd want pretty much all of them back.

Here were the biggest trades in the last 24 hours of the 2010 trade deadline:

Andy Sutton to Ottawa for a 2nd (night before)
Seidenberg to Boston for a 2nd, which involved three other players
Wojtek Wolski for Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter (all are at least NHL players)
Jeff Halpern to LA for Teddy Purcell + 3rd rounder
Clarke MacArthur to Buffalo for a 3rd + 4th
Lubomir Visnovsky for Ryan Whitney + 6th
Joe Corvo to the Caps for Oskar Osala, Brian Pothier and a 2nd (he went back to Carolina later)
Raffi Torres for Nathan Paetsch + 2nd rounder

Visnovsky is probably the best player on that list, and he went to a team that missed the playoffs.

I'm assuming that within 30 minutes of the Kaberle-to-Boston deal getting done, all of our avatars will return due to the massive reduction in HFBoards traffic.

This year does seem to favour the sellers so far.

I wonder if whoever cut out the avatars predicted this ala Nostradamus. I'm surprised HFboards hasn't crashed yet even with avatars off.

The Kaberle deal may have been an overpayment, but the Peverley/Valabik deal is excellent.

Boston's going to be tough to play against in the playoffs.

At least we won't meet before the ECF.

The Habs could still win the Northeast.

I don't think they will, but they're only 2 points behind Boston right now.

Boston got better.

Offensively their team is really streaky though.

The trades with a link:

http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sp...osition=recent

Quote:
The never-ending rumors have apparently come true as the Bruins have a deal in place to get Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle today and then some according to web site tsn.ca.

In the first of two trades, the Bruins will swap 21-year-old center Joe Colborne, their 2011 first-round draft pick and a conditional pick for the 32-year-old Kaberle. Kaberle has 38 points (3 goals, 35 assists) in 58 games this season for the Leafs. Colborne was the Bs first-round pick in 2008.

According to tsn.ca, the trade still has to go through the league.

In the second trade, the Bruins will deal forward Blake Wheeler and defenseman Mark Stuart to the Atlanta Thrashers for center Rich Peverley and 25-year-old defenseman Boris Valabik.

Peverley, 28, has 14 goals and 20 assists in 59 games for the Thrashers.

The Habs are playing with the Hamilton Bulldogs D corps right now. Not happening.

that "stud" Colbourne is averging less then a half a point a game in the AHL at age 21. That would qualify as a bust if he was a Flyers prospect.

It must be nice to be Chiarelli. Though he overpaid here I think, but still. Losing Stuart is a bit of a downside for them, but he had a much higher salary than someone like McQuaid. Also, while Wheeler's as inconsistent as they come, Peverley is probably the most overrated player on hf since that Richards comparison started. Boston needed someone like Kaberle though.

They definitely seem like a better team to me now, Kaberle is a good pickup.

Edit: Someone posted this, they have a good team for sure.

Lucic-Krejci-Horton
Marchand-Bergeron-Recchi
Seguin-Peverley-Ryder
Kelly-Campbell-Thornton
Paille

Chara-Kampfer
Seidenberg-Kaberle
Ference-Boychuck

I think the B's paid a very steep price for Kaberle

If they win cup or he resigns it doesn't look steep but if they dont win cup and he leaves as UFA then it could haunt them down line

Trade with Atlanta sucks,,,,,,, Not for either team involved but for Blackhawk fans

Guy we have been hearing trade rumors about for last month gets traded to Thrashers a day after every report had him going to Chicago

Now we are looking at absolute gutter trash like Hunwick and Pardy

Pardy blows

He is nothing more then #6/7 dman

Never thought much of him with Flames these last few years and he only plays 14+ minutes a night

He is a #6/7 and that doesn't improve the Hawks

Hawks want a dman who can PK and take time from Seabs/Keith/Campbell

Pardy is not that type of dman and he is less physical then Stuart

Pardy is a bigger version of Jordan Hendry but not as good fo a skater

If Hawks trade for Pardy it is pretty much on our season

Far too costly ,, Hawks cant fit his cap hit without moving a major salary

After amazing Byfuglien deal (Loved the assets we got for him) Bowman has pretty much failed as GM

Got robbed by Burke on Steeger deal
I liked Ladd deal
Every UFA he signed has been horrendous for Hawks this year

He has sat on his ### for months not addressing our #5 D spot and now we cant get anyone to improve it

Pretty forgetable season at this point ,,, It is 50/50 if we make playoffs at this point

Ian White to the Sharks. No word on the return yet, although the Sharks and Canes made a separate deal with Derek Joslin going to Carolina.

Brewer's been really good what little I've seen of him this season. I know that he's had a few rough years with lots of injuries, but the Bolts got a really solid defender for a 2nd rounder. That's a good deal, especially when you consider what that group of defenders consisted of before.

I don't quite understand it from the Blues perspective though. They can't have given up on making the playoffs? Have they got someone waiting in the wings ready to step up? Johnson-Jackman, Pietrangelo-Polak, Colaiacovo-? Still a fairly decent group I guess.
