I like the Skinner comparison for Shinkaruk, I think it fits the bill not only playing style wise but they have a lot in common and play similar level of game in the sense that they both can snipe and score goals in many ways, shifty, smooth skating, and they are both about the same height.

I can see why RS would use Parise comparison as well but I just don't see it much because in my opinion Parise such a relentless workhorse of a player and he has/had a complete element to his game that Shinkaruk can only dream right now. However, they both look quite similar in the way they play.

Shinkaruk needs more love, in my opinion. I sincerely hope the Devils take a shot on him. I think he peaked a little too soon and everyone forgot about him when he lost a 60-goal winger in Etem. He's fantastically skilled and reportedly has a fantastic work-ethic and attitude, as well. His coach absolutely raves about him in interviews. I think he could be a serious gem considering he might be the best offensive forward after Mackinnon and Drouin.

I am hoping Shinkaruk falls to the Islanders(very unlikely but possible)

I can see alot of teams falling in love with other player(Domi and Horvat for instance) and Hunter falling a bit

Yeah. The Skinner comparison just fits too well imo.

Not only in that extremely high level 'goal scoring instinct' and the offensive IQ there, but in the agility, balance, and edgework with the skating, the determination and drive that is very good despite the 'size questions'.

I think Shinkaruk is also a guy who, like Skinner...could end up surprising and making an NHL roster, putting up goals right away. That sort of impact.

Definitely looks like a top-10 prospect to me, but as others have mentioned, who knows with this draft...other teams could fall in love with various other players of a different 'type', or some of the alleged interview concerns could have an impact.

I am curious myself. I heard the stories about terrible interviews but an interview can't drop somebody that far can they?

I hope he pans out and everybody learns the lesson about putting much stock into the interview process

Anything think Hunter can be compared to Daniel Briere? Both #24 picks.

Well I guess getting picked 24th will knock him down a few pegs. I still don't understand how he goes from 10 to 24 being a jackass(although for the sake of argument Getzlaf was labelled a jackass in 2003 and fell from a possible top 10 pick to 19)

I don't want to spread rumors that may no longer be true, but I can personally verify that this was the case during his minor hockey days here in Calgary. He certainly wasn't the most likeable character from what I remember hearing and seeing.

He is also on the smallish side and tends to play more of a perimeter game than he should at times. Scouts may also have had a hard time looking past his performance this season, and the lack of taking his game to that "next level" after three seasons in the WHL.

It is possible that he is a victim of being over scouted, or that he was simply a poor fit organizationally for the teams selecting from 10-23.

Only time will tell. It will be interesting to follow his career, thats for sure.

Typical. Pre draft this guy is loved...falls to Canucks and now the reason is attitude issues. Lets ignore all the great articles posted above about him or the fact he was named team captain and his coach raves about. Couldn't be happier with this pick. Could see him actually cracking the roster this year.

I been hearing for weeks that he really did bad in interviews at the Combine. I never got it because the interviews I see him do he seems fairly level headed

All that being said if bad attitude(or him being somewhat of a jackass) is what made him drop the Canucks lucked out big time. I think that's a fairly stupid reason to not draft a guy

He fell for a reason - generally that comes down to size and/or personality.

Considering it was such a deep class I think it's fair to say he fell more because of teams priorities rather than attributes. Look at Domi for example.

Rather than assume its an attitude, personality or size issue, it could be other factors.

His numbers were great this year, but they were less than last season. Scouts might think he peaked. Who knows? Every clip or interview I've watched and every article I've read makes me like what I see. I understand the Skinner/Parise comparables.
