I think a package around the likeliness of Wright+Mihalik+ Philly 2nd 2012 would reel in Philips. Do you guys think that would get the job done?

Only way Komisarek gets here is if the Leafs pay us a ****ing ransom to take him in a package.

I'm curious where Yzerman sees some of our prospects in terms of depth and readiness. Panik/Ashton/Connolly/Wright should be getting close.

It's not as easy as going out and getting a good defenseman. (not that's ever easy to begin with) I think something to keep in mind is we need is somebody who is not only good, but can be a perfect fit to play our style.

One of the big concerns heading into the season was if we had the right group of defensemen who could carry out Boucher's system. I believe we see them execute it beautifully some nights but not every night or not for a full game. I think we have a good group and a smart group of D, but I don't think they play it perfectly and that's key.

We're going to make the playoffs and anything can happen once you're in, but adding a good dman who plays our system to a T could take our game to the next level. Yzerman and Boucher knew that we weren't going to get everyone and everything we wanted in 1 offseason to compete for a cup so now might be the time to add another piece to the puzzle, not just for this season's run but hopefully for the next too, if somebody is offering the right deal.

According to Stan Bowman, Seabrook is going nowhere.

Kaberle, Phillips, Jovanovski would be nice.

Harju, Mihalik, 2nd for Phillips?

Phillips is disgusting and not a good fit into Bouchers system..

I'd pass on Phillips if only for the constant 1st overall pick talk that would be centered around the team.

Think the 'both Stammer + Vinny were 1st overall' talk was bad? See what happens if we get Phillips.

Hm, do you think the Yotes would shop Jovanovski? They're currently #6 in the West and he's a vet and great leader.

Jovo was partners with Ohlund back in the WCE days, but I'd much rather get Yandle if we're going to poach anybody off their defense. He will become RFA July 1st.

Trading for an impending RFA might work in our favor. Because he'd still be pretty new to the team, he might not have the same leverage to ask for as large a raise as he would with Phoenix.

Adrian Aucoin could also be an absolute bargain. If we were willing to trade for a 41 year old goalie, why not a 37 year old defenseman? He also has one year left at $2 million.

Aucoin should be cheaper to trade for, but I also don't see Yandle's true market value as being much higher than what Aucoin is scheduled to make next season.

Yandle is untouchable in my opinion, but still, we would need to send at least Purcell + Connolly/Ashton + 1st, we're talking about a young, top 2 d-man

I guess anything is possible, but can you really consider Yandle anything short of untouchable for Phoenix? He's their leading scorer and it seems safe to project him to finish with 60+ points. And he's no defensive slouch. He's the real deal and is going to make a pretty penny with his next deal. In short, the 'Yotes in all probability will reallocate a significant chunk of what they've been paying Jovanovski (who will have to take a hefty pay cut or head elsewhere) to Yandle. I think it's a safe assumption that you wouldn't even want to fathom what Phoenix would probably, and quite justifiably, request in exchange in for Yandle.

And even if the Coyotes brass is open to parting ways with Jovanovski and/or Aucoin, I can't imagine they are prepared to ship them off in the midst of a playoff run.

Of the three, I think Phillips would be the least painful acquisition, in terms of cost, but I honestly think Kaberle is the better fit for Boucher's system. For Kaberle, I'd move the package you proposed but I don't think Burke's pride will allow him to accept anything short of an established roster player and a 1st. I also think that Kaberle will wind up in Boston, either on or before the deadline or come July 1.

I could be wrong, but I don't think we're going to see a major face-lift to the D until the off-season.

We have Kubina, Ohlund, Smaby, and Jones in this system. I think Phillips could handle it. Not to mention he's a better player than all of the above while having a crappy season on a horrible team.

What? Fisher went to the Preds for a 1st and a conditional 2012 yesterday. Phillips hasn't been traded yet. At least I don't think so

Agreed. I hope Yzerman will at least get in touch with his camp come July 1 (assuming he doesn't re-sign beforehand, of course) but unless he's willing to accept a significant discount and a short-term (2-year max) deal, I don't see it happening.

So the idea is to add another pylon to the collection? Or you just want to upgrade a pylon?

I rather do nothing than that, if we could somehow add some mobility it would be great.
