Ales Kotalik Clears Waivers

TSN BobMcKenzie Twitter

Matt Walker (PHI) and Ales Kotalik (CGY) on waivers.

The start of cleaning up of D. Sutters mistakes?

I have no desire to see this player contaminate Abbotsford; ECHL, KHL or just stay away entirely. Can't see anyone claiming him on re-entry; 1.5M for 12 goals over an 82 game season is absurd. Especially for someone who brings as little to the table as Kotalik.

Sorry, remind me again - if a Festivus miracle were to accur and Kotalik was actually claimed by another team, we're in for half his salary for the remainder of the length of his contract? Or would it all come off the books?

I believe we'd pay half his salary, but it wouldn't count against our cap. I think, anyway.

now if we can just dump Staios, and see if we can get an upgrade on Hagman and Stajan, heck would even look at trading Bourque for the right deal, talk about inconsistent and doesnt know how to pass a puck

Part of me is going to miss hearing the Kotalik song once every 15-20 games, while the other part of me is saying thank God.

Doesn't it all come off the books, we pay half if its re-entry waivers? I could be wrong though.

I wouldn't go as far to trade Bourque yet but I would definitely look to upgrade Hagman, guy has been invisible for most of the season.

If he got claimed we wouldn't be on the hook for his Salary.

If he's placed on re-entery waivers after he clears (and he will clear) then we are on the hook for half this year and half next year if he were to be claimed on re-entry.

Gotcha. Thanks!

I still have no idea what Darryl Sutter was thinking with the deal that brought Kotalik here. That one, and the trade to acquire Staios have to be two of Darryl Sutter's worst moves. The old man clearly was losing it towards the end there.

Question: Once Staios is back the scratches will be two of him, Mikkelson, and Pardy.

That leaves room for one forward scratch. Conroy looks like he's heading out and Feaster indicated there where players in Abby that he wanted to give a shot.

So if Kotalik and Conroy are both out, who's coming up? I'm guessing it would be one of the older guys on the team because they will be seeing a lot of pressbox time unless they really impress, so that rules out Neimsz. Meyer, Cunning, and Rheult all seem like options.

Feaster said it would be only a few games at a time so wouldn't that mean the younger guys like Nemisz, Bouma ect. to see what they bring to an NHL game. Not some older career AHL player

this does not mean Kotalik is gone, it simply means he is on waivers... if no one claims him he could be demoted but i have my doubts... perhaps he gets demoted and recalled right away to try and lose him on re-entry... even then does anyone take a chance at 1.5?

I could see some teams being interested at 1.5 million if he was a UFA at the end of the season but not when he is still signed to another year.

Talk about great news!!!!!! Peace out Kotalik, you wont be missed.

Nice move by Feaster, if Sutter was still in the driving seat he would of signed Kotalik to a 6 year deal cause the guy is a veteran.
