Hey. Huge Bill Ranford fan here in Saskatoon. For that reason, my fiancee bought me ridiculously good tickets for the Oilers vs. Kings game on March 29th in hopes that we may have a chance to meet Ranford at some point on our trip and perhaps ask him to sign my jersey. I was wondering if anybody out there knows whether Ranford travels with the Kings when they are on the road, also when and where the visiting team practices on game day, and finally whether practices are open for the public to observe. Thanks and sorry if this is not thread worthy.
Well you shoulda asked me 11 years ago. His daughter had class across the hall from me in elementary and would always pick her up after school. I could have grabbed you an autograph then
Ranford works closely with the Kings’ two young Jonathans - goaltenders Jonathan Quick and Jonathan Bernier. He is with the team two weeks out of every month, and spends the other two weeks analyzing video from his home office in New Westminster, British Columbia.
I used to love seeing Ranford play. My favorite goalie ever without a doubt. He was so exciting to watch with those lightning fast reflexes. Butterfly goalies are so boring in comparison.
Anyone remember that upside down double pad stack save he made in the heritage classic? Vintage Ranford!

There is absolutely nothing better than a good ol' fashioned Bill Ranford barrell roll!
Had that guy been born ten years earlier he would be in the Hall of Fame today.
The stand-up style went out in the early 90's and puck-moving, butterfly goalies were all the rage.
Too bad - first jersey I ever go, sewn and everything, at Christmas 1991. Still have it hanging in my closet. I'd wear it to more games, but it always seemed to be jinxed.
I still say Randford was the best player in the world for a very small window. Between the 90 cup Run and the Canada cup the next summer he was unreal. His game really tailed off quick after that.

So I have to ask you - if the Oilers play Jimmy Craig's stand-in during the '91 playoffs instead of Fuhr do they get a date with the Pittsburgh Penguins?

lol, probably still wouldn't matter. Messier limping to the celebration after beating the Flames in 7 games pretty much meant that year was done. The Oil left everything on the ice that year in what was one of the best playoff series ever. Nothing left for the Northstars unfortunately.

I agree. I forgot Messier was pretty banged up throughout his last season as an Oiler. I guess if he was healthy many things could've been different - maybe he ends his career an Oiler with on more Cup. But that would mean beating a very good Penguins team.
In honor of this thread I think I'll wear my old school Billy Ranford jersey to the game tonight.
Good timing to bring up Bill Ranford, just read this article:

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A 50-year-old BC-based chain of restaurants has changed hands.
Mr. Mikes has been bought by RAMMP Hospitality, led by former Boston Pizza executive Mike Cordoba. It paid an undisclosed price for Mr. Mikes and its 19 locations in BC and Alberta.
The chain was founded by two brothers, Bob and Nick Constabaris, in 1960. The first location was on Granville Street in Vancouver.
RAMMP bought the Pantry chain of restaurants from its founders last April. In both cases, the objective is to revitalize a longstanding group and expand in Western Canada. The company also bought the four Rockwell's Grill & Bar restaurants last year.
