Nice chance for Edmonton...

...to become official mini-Sweden!
According to Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet (as you might know since Omark) Linus partner in crime Johan Harju has grown tired of not getting a proper chance in Tampa Bay. (http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportblade...icle8479836.ab)

In the article the is "thinking" about going home. He as been playing well in AHL, doing 30 points in 35 games and beeing selected for the AHL All-stars.
Since Tampa has been doing great, it's not so strange he hasn't been able to take a spot. However i do think he would be a great and cheap player for the Oilers.
He has size and at least som scoring sense, and can probably be picked up for some cheap money.
Omark - MPS - Harju would rock

What do you guys think?

Maybe for the right price. BUT, even though we HAVEN'T had the same success as Tampa, where will he play? If he's not happy playing with their AHL affiliate, how much fun is he going to have in OKC?

Where would he fit? It's obvious he'd want a roster spot and we are already having problems figuring that out.

My guess is Detroit might take a chance on him.

Just looked, the guy is tied for 5th on his AHL team. Maybe he should step it up, not good when Pouilot is out producing you.

Sure, would be a great idea if he were a dman, goalie or center but the last thing we need right now is another left winger.
Nice numbers in the AHL this year though. He just got to suck it up and keep playing hard like Omark did. He'll get his shot.

Or we can just draft Landeskog, Zibanejad and Larsson

Paajarvi-Lander-Ladeskog
Zibanejad-Haru-Omark

Larsson

I have always thought of Harju as a product of Omark and the last thing we need is another tweener winger. If we want to get the Swedes buying Oilers merchandise it would be better to just draft Larsson or Landeskog.

Is it really a good sign that he wants to bail on North America after half of one season?

I'd give Tampa JF Jaques or Stortini for him...just to get rid of them.

He is a center, although he isn't good enough imho. =)

yeah only way we take him is if we could send all our scraps over... Stortini, JFJ, Fraser, etc... then im down. We draft Larsson or Landeskog we will be team mini Sweden.

If a guy is this quick to whine openly about playing time I would pass.

Pretty sure with the impending trade deadline that TB should be able to move him for something. Problem is he needs to relax and wait his turn. TB is a top team in the East right now, so it's going to take time to get what he thinks is a good shot.

I haven't actually seen him play so you're probably right, but on hockeydb and the Norfolk Admirals website he's listed as a left winger. If the kid can play center and we can dump Stortini or Jacques for him i'd be all for it. Even if he heads back to Sweden, at least we'd be rid of some useless baggage.

Let's see, a 24 yo 6'3 200+ lb winger... who apparently can play either side.

http://forecaster.thehockeynews.com/...layer.cgi?4610

And it looks like he's played five years professionally in men's leagues already (SEL and KHL). This is EXACTLY the type of player we should be looking to pick up if the price is cheap.

Cheap contract. Adds size and scoring touch. Could he leave in a huff? Sure can - but it's a risk you take if the price is right.

I would have no problem giving up a 4th liner (Jacques, Fraser, Stortini) or third pairing dman (Vandermeer, Petiot).

Hmm.. how about Gilbert Brule for Harju? They are the same age and probably has nearly equal amount of professional hockey experience. Brule has the higher profile (6th overall pick) and more NHL experience while Harju is bigger, and cheaper contract.

problem i see is that he would need top six minutes and who out of our top 6 do we move?

more over when eberle and hemsky come back that will move omark to the third line, other problem is he is a lw and we have hall, mps and penner there already

If he was a center I'd give it a shot. You can never have enough centers. As for wingers we have enough of those I think. We need to get rid of some actually, especially when we have 2 pretty good ones on IR.

The guy is a center and is someone Edm sould target with our 31-35 pick.

Larsson in 1st
Zibanejad in 2nd

I'd like to stay away from players that muse about "going home" that early their careers. Not worth wasting assets on, IMO.

I see the Oilers more of a top 9 lineup.

Draft RNH. Move Hall to centre. Size down the LW.

Penner - Hall - Hemsky
Paajarvi - RNH/Gagner - Omark
Harju - Horcoff - Eberle
