Calgary and Pittsburgh

To Calgary: Jordan Staal

in exchange for

To Pittsburgh: Jarome Iginla

I've heard about this deal, and I've got to admit, I'm a fan for both sides. Pittsburgh receives a legitimate power forward to shoulder the load for the remainder of Crosby's absence. Moreover, the "GOLDEN GOAL" pairing from Vancouver 2010 would be reunited.

Calgary gets one of the grittiest, hard working forwards in the league. Staal's cycling and incessant forechecking would greatly benefit Calgary and the likes of Stajan, Glencross, Hagman, and Bourque. It's clear that Iginla's reign is coming to an end, so to get something of value back is essential.

Gets a no from me, I don't want to trade Iginla and this doesn't even work cap wise.

I like Staal, but no thanks. Not interested in trading Iginla. But for making the effort in starting this thread, you may take Steve Staios for free as a parting gift.

Iginla's "reign" is far from ending, and even though I like Staal, I wouldn't trade Iginla for him straight up at this point.

Only 2 posts in and already a bad trade proposal... tired of seeing all this on our board. Sure, the Flames have a 75% chance of being sellers, but seller =/= first line proven experienced winger for your unproven, POSSIBLE first-line centre.

Don't get me wrong, I like Staal, but this is not the trade you make if you're Calgary.

Did I miss something, or was Crosby just medically cleared to resume practice? Therefore, the void left by his absence is small.

PS: the salary cap says "hello".

PPS: Iginla > Staal

Staal and what?! Nothing...

Not a chance I'd do this trade, regardless of the age gap. I'd love to bring Staal to this team, but no way in hell is he worth the franchise. I wouldn't want to trade Iginla anyways, what's the point? For his contract and age, you would never get a player as good as him coming back. Futures are just that, and the odds that one of them would turn out to be half the player iginla is now is quite unlikely.

Keep Iggy, and continue to try and build around him. The only way I'd move him is if he wants to be traded or this team truly hits the basement.

That's the problem with the Calagry "franchise", when Iggy is it.

In case you haven't noticed, looking forward, Calgary has one of the weaker franchises in the league, when you consider current players, age, salary cap room, prospects and draft picks.

The value of the "franchise" is only decreasing.

There are hundreds of NHL forwards you could apply that sentence to.

Jordan Staal is worth Iginla... This is what Pens fans actually believe.

granted you are right in a broad sense. However, Iginla has never been this teams problem, he is far and away our best player. Yes we have an older team and need better prospect depth. But giving up one of the best players in the league is foolish imo. Certainly roster changes need to be done, but moving iginla is not going to solve any problems, only add to them.

I do see the value of moving Iginla, but not at this time. Maybe my mind will change in the offseason. But we sure as hell better get a more substantial return then Staal!

Horrible proposal.

Value is not close, and if it was, its not the right type of player.

Are you suggesting, the Flames should accept this offer, if it was represented to them?

Although I really like Staal's game I don't think it i that of a 1st line centre. Look at a guy like Kesler. He is doing so well because he is in that secondary role. Staal would probably hit 60pts playing big minutes on the top line (not that he doesn't play big mins now). The injury is a concern as well.

Calgary would want more futures is they traded Iginla.

What injury? The wrist? That was a freak accident, Staal has a great track record with injuries (or lack there of). His two latest injuries were weird circumstances.

Don't forget Iggy is starting to seriously loose steam....
Another 2 years and you won't be able to do a move like that....

wow, talk about misinformed... you are aware Iginla is tied for 13th in the league in points and tied for 11th in goals right?... that he is putting up just shy of a point per game pace... he has an off year last year and now people can't get it through their thick skulls that it was an off year not a decline

Iginla is starting to lose steam... do yourself a favour and check the points standings before looking like a total idiot next time.

This thread is funny. Wrong Staal in my opinion if you're gonna trade one for one when talking about a franchise player LOL!

How about Staal, Tangradi and Pittsburgs 1st. And Calgary still says no this year. We are gearing up for a playoff run, Iggy is not going to be traded at all. Anyways, the players I mentioned are a start, but it is still not enough.
