Weiss is definitely not worth Backlund, a 1st and an upgrade on defense.
dont watch much of Calgary, theirs been rumors Calgary wants Weiss so i might think Backlund or another young player plus pick would come back. Regher is someone who I think would be a beast with us, someone we need badly...
Drop the first round pick...Weiss is a step up over Backlund, but Backlund is one of Calgarys top young players. Allen is less of a defensive dman then Regher, and although McCabe is better offensively, I'd say that Regher, while not being top 10 for dmen overall, is in the top 10, even with this year, for shut down Dmen.
Weiss+McCabe/Allen for Regher+Backlund is closer to a deal then Weiss+McCabe/Allen for Regher+Backlund+Calgary's 1st round pick, the first since the 2009 draft if I'm not mistaken. That, plus a little bit of a bare cupboard means Calgary should keep their pick.
he has a high value for florida, I think the asking price for him is going to be high as he has been here for a long time and is right now really the only good center we have ....

This.
Personally I would have no interest in Bernier or Reasoner....I'd also rather have McCabe over Allen, as it would free up cap space next season to go hunting for a top 3 d-man on July 1st to help replace Regehr.

i'm sure whoever we trade Weiss/Vokoun/Booth, we are going to look to get high draft pick(s) as part of the return, maybe take away the 1st and make it a 2011 2nd?

We don't have a 2nd for the 2011 draft at the moment.

then I guess 1st in 2012 or i dont know, maybe just Weiss for Backlund and 2011 1st?
The flames waived kotalik, so Weiss for Backlund and a 1st would be fine cap wise...

No thanks, I would rather Backlund anyway. hopefully soon Brent will be gone and the new coach will give this kid a chance...he has serious skill.
I do like Weiss but at 27 I doubt he'll get much better..which is a 2nd line center much like we already have in Stajan.

No, Weiss is not much of an improvement over Jokinen and Stajan.
Both assets you mentioned would not be involved in a trade for another 50-60 point player, unless they are under the age of 25.
I would have more interest in Booth than Weiss, but still would not trade the above assets for him.
In a deal for Booth or Weiss a player such as Hagman, Stajan or maybe Bourque would be going the other way, and then determining the value of what needs to be added from either side.
I just dont see Feaster or Ownership wanting to trade young prospects or draft picks in the next few years for minimal improvements on our older players, otherwise I think we would still see Sutter here.

Florida gets:
Mikael Backlund
Robyn Regehr
2011 or 12 1st rd pick
Calgary gets:
Weiss
Allen/McCabe
thoughts?
proposal changes?
That is way too much for Calgary to give.
A) We are not trading Backlund OR our first round pick
B) If we are going after Weiss then that means we are going for a strong playoff push. Trading away Regehr would be a bad move if thats the case. As he is our best player defensively. We would just be switching one problem for another.
If the Flames dont continue to do good and are out of it come the deadline, then I see Feaster trading Regehr for a prospect/pick package. Then going into a full rebuild this summer.
Calgary has zero interest in either of McCabe or Bryan.
What about this counter:
From Calgary:
Robyn Regehr
From Florida
Stephen Weiss.
Let's keep things simple. Both players are on similar contract lengths. Weiss is 27, not 22. So he's probably pretty close to his ceiling at 60 points.
wow, talk about horrible... I like Weiss but the Flames and Panthers are not good trading partners... the only way this could work is if Stajan was going to Florida
We trade a 1b/2nd line center, 2nd pairing(at best defenseman in Allen) and receive their top prospect center, a top pairing shutdown defenseman and a first?

He had multiple shifts on the top line with Iginla and Tanguay only a game or two back. He's being brought along nicely. He gets to learn the meaning of hard work by playing with Jackman and Kostopolous, and if he does as he is told with 100% effort he gets treated to some first line minutes.
