Maybe this?

Toronto gets
Bourque (3.3 mil)
Staios (2.7 mil)
4th round pick

Calgary gets
Versteeg (3 mil)
Gunnarsson (65,000)

Bourque is worth more than Versteeg.

Why? So Calgary fans can spit on Versteeg's car instead?

No thanks.

Tunga, exactly what need does Versteeg fill in Calgary? He wouldn't be Calgary's first line left winger because of Tanguay, so he'd be the second line left wing? At the cost of the second line right wing?

Why did you propose this?? Sure Versteeg is younger, but Bourque is in his prime and the better player right now.

Flames fan here -

I'm not so sure Bourque is a better player right now. He's been invisible for 3/4 of the season so far. I'd consider this trade, especially if Toronto offers a 2nd rounder in addition in Versteeg. Bourque is so over rated.

a 30 year old Bourque won't fit in with our forward group. I'll keep Versteeg thanks

His game-to-game effort is questionable, but his skill level is unarguably better than Versteeg's.

So the Leafs get a guy that:

- is five years older
- has a bigger cap hit
- has scored fewer points

... and you guys think they WIN the deal? Derp?

Give me a break, Versteeg's rookie year was 5 points shy of Bourque's career high.

Oh you mean the season he was on a stacked Western Conference Champion Chicago team vs when Bourque was and still is on a mediocre Flames team? You mean the seasons where Versteeg got 53 points in 79 games and Bourque got 58 in 73 the Flames didn't even make the playoffs in??

I will say that Versteeg actually puts in effort from what I've heard night in and night out, and it's really true that Bourque doesn't. That being said, Bourque has 28 points to Versteeg's 32, and that would be the only reason I could see Calgary dealing Bourque for Versteeg straight up - distance between the coaching staff and Bourque's work ethic level.

There is no way CGY is going to accept this trade, but hey you never know when it comes to Burke. After negotiation this trade will end up looking like this
sarcastic trade of course!

To Calgary:
Versteeg, 1st-2nd round picks (2012) and a 1st round pick (2013)

To Toronto:
Bourque, 4th round pick (2011)

Either way I would much rather have Bourque on my team then Versteeg.

People are ignoring this. I think Versteeg is a better, younger, cheaper and more clutch player then Bourque.

Bourque is garbage. He is not consistent and never gives 100% effort. I would much rather keep versteeg who is cheaper, younger, and a good pker and good on the pp.
