Will Pegula go back to the original jerseys?

While the Sabres have already undergone several jersey changes since the lockout, I think most people would agree that our current jerseys at least need to be tweaked.

It's the grey trim. It's pointless and ruins what would otherwise be some of the best jerseys in the NHL.

---

Tampa Bay just unveiled new uniforms the very next season after Jeff Vinik bought the team. While there have been mixed reviews, the point is that they wanted to go in a different direction from the previous ownership group(s).

Now I doubt that Pegula would want to change the uniforms too drastically, but the ones that Buffalo used from their inaugural season to the mid 90s happen to be really good IMO (I know they made a bunch of tweaks during that time but it was still the same basic uniform).

^While they wore the originals as an alternate in 06-07 (well, sort of) and in the Winter Classic, the Golisano/Quinn ownership group, for whatever reason, never decided to just go back to them permanently.

It's a matter of preference whether you like one shade of blue or the other, but if Pegula went back to the original uniforms it would send a message that he'll make the moves that Golisano/Quinn were so reluctant to make. Maybe that's reading too much into it, haha.

Though I would understand if Sabres fans are "burnt out" from all the recent jersey changes.

Thoughts?

I'm not 100% happy with the new jerseys. I mainly hate the gray under the arms. Looks like pit stains. But, lets put the whole issue of jerseys aside for 5 or 10 years and then revisit it.

They are nice enough and it is just getting silly.

Agreed. We should be MUCH more concerned with whether or not he's going to put together a cup contender.

Though as not to drag this thread violently off topic I like the Jerseys as they are. The more that they get changed the more apparent that it is that it's only a grab for more money.

Yes go back to the uniforms that represented decades of mediocrity. I want more of that.

I really hope Pegula doesn't have jersey design at the top of his "to-do" list.

Hate the pit stains and the piping, but I'd hate to see another jersey change.

I do love the originals though, and if it weren't for all the recent jersey change ********, would otherwise love to see us go back to them. After that, I'd be happy to never see a jersey/logo change again.

Agree with TTN. The current jerseys are fine right now. Save the tweaking for a few years down the road when it's not a continuation of the running "Sabres are changing jerseys again, lol" joke.

The constant switching is probably a great reason in many fans' minds to NOT invest over 100 bucks in a jersey that only lasts for one season.

Stop it.

I'd like to see them add a shoulder patch.

Outside of that I'll deal with the pit stains and piping even though they look a little weird. Nobody's going to be 100% satisfied, IMO this set looks fine just the way they are.

I really hope they stick with the home & away jerseys for a long time.

While I don't like the silver/gray accents, I believe the new look is a solid modern twist on a classic theme.

I can see a move back to the "original" design being scrapped again in the future for a "modernized" look.

Now I could live with perhaps making the Alternates the original blues. But, as the season has gone on, the Alternates have grown on me outside of the stupid stitching on the numbers.

As a season ticket holder - it would be cool if the Sabres did something like this:

As the Tampa Bay Lightning unveiled a new logo and vision for the future today as part of its brand and business transformation, the franchise also introduced a revolutionary new jersey concept for its season ticket holders, to debut for the 2011-12 National Hockey League season. All full season ticket holders for the upcoming season will receive a home game jersey with their respective season ticket commitments. The jersey will be reserved exclusively for full season ticket holders with its own distinctive identifying marks.

In addition to the sweater’s distinct look, a microchip will be inserted in the sleeve, thereby allowing season ticket holders to be identified at concession stands and merchandise shops throughout the St. Pete Times Forum. By scanning these embedded sleeves, fans will receive a 25% discount on all concessions in the arena and a 35% discount on all merchandise purchased at the Times Forum during Lightning games.

LS...

I like the current jerseys. Maybe in a year or two they could remove the pit stains, but it's not a big deal. Like most of you, I certainly wouldn't want another major jersey switch.

This is what people worry about?

I don't care if we're wearing brown paper bags as long as he builds a contender.

I'd love to see these as our new jerseys:

Just get rid of the gray piping, make it a bit lighter (our jersey looks black on TV most of the time, we look like the Bruins) and get rid of the stupid numbers on the chest.

It's basically just an RBK version of our original jerseys, with the shoestring collar.

after this season, use the original classic jerseys/socks/pants as our thirds while keeping the regular unis the same (minus pit stains). Then we would never need to speak of jerseys again i.m.o.

This.

I am hoping he puts together a Championship team together and hope that some big time gamechangers want to come and play here.

This is great, thanks. The only thing it's missing is shoulder patches. The 06-07 alternates are awesome but the front numbers are bleh, the pants are wrong, and I agree with you about the laces.

I would have the opposite of what some have said: originals for the home and away and the darker blue (without the grey and front numbers) as a third. I really, really like the original blue.
