Well I thought yes until yesterday. I mean you watch it and the puck is all over the place, but then you have a player poll saying it's the best? I guess you need to skate on it to know.
I think the Oilers used to (maybe still do) have a program at NAIT and maybe the U of A for reaserch into ice making.
I think Katz should dump some money into making sure Edmonton stays ahead of the curve not only in the NHL, but the world when it comes to ice making. The new rink should have the best of the best and set a new standard. There is no reason we can't.
Not a massive one. Both teams have to play on it, i'm sure if the oilers had to play in a southern market more often they'd have some negative things to say about that ice as well.

I doubt the players put a lot of thought into their answers. Rexall was most likely voted the best based on past reputation and nothing more.

Do you work on the ice? Play on it? Nope, your a couch potato thats making an assumption with no f***ing base, derp I SAW PUCK BOUNCE ICE BAD.
Yes, cause players would all collectively think yea remember that time in Rexall 5 years ago man that was good ice. That causing them to choose it as best in 2011. Perfect sense.

I would have put it a bit more eloquently, but basically this. I don't understand how people can just discount the opinions of the players and decide that because they watch it on TV it's bad. If a person has never been on the ice and played on it, I don't think they should say it's bad — or good. I've been on it once during an Oil Kings game, but I wasn't on skates, so I'm not going to say it's good or bad.

It's not something worth getting defensive about. I think players have better things to worry about and didn't put a ton of thought into their answers.
As for bold...that's exactly what I think. The Oilers had the best ice in the league for what? 10 or 15 years? It's only been the last 2 or 3 years that we've been seeing a difference. Unless you're in the North West division you've probably played at Rexall around 4-6 times(or less) but for years have heard that Edmonton has the best ice. So yes. I think past reputation has everything to do with Rexall being voted #1. If players were just being asked if Rexall has good ice, it would be different. The best of all 30 teams in the league? Not anymore.

So Wilson is a well liked coach and Edmonton and Toronto are two places players want to play? Oh and Sid the Kid isn't that good either?
Come on, 380 players were questioned and unless they were all eastern players I'd have to think lots of the players played on Rexall and many other rinks this year. If Rexall was as brutal as people make out to be then players would remember that.

I never said the ice was "brutal". It's just not "the best" in the NHL.
About a month or two ago Patrick Laforge was on the radio. He said the ice plant is only a few years old and they're still making tweaks to get the most out of it. If the president of the team can recognize the ice isn't what it once was, I don't know why the fans are so defensive about it.

I get defensive because apparently poster on here are smarter then scouts, coaches, gm's and now the players that play on the ice. Just because the ice isn't what it was doesn't mean it can't still be the best.
Didn't one poster yesterday talk about how the Sedins love our ice? Maybe it's time to start listening to the pro's instead of being amateur know it alls.
I can say from experience, the ice is great. I think i would go with the opionion of the NHL players too, they are not going to just think that Rexall is the best because it was a few years ago.
After watching the Oilers since their inception into the NHL in 1979, I can definitely see, just by being a "couch potato", that the ice is not even close in quality to what it was. The ice is bad, compared to Rexall's previous history. But maybe it still has the best ice in the league as per the players. If that's the case, there is some pretty bad ice out there.

Are you guys just basing this on the puck bouncing?

Washington( i think) had exposed concrete on the edges earlier this year. The ice didn't take in time after they had replaced it do to monster trucks or something.

That's part of it, as well as the Oiler players themselves were complaining about the ruts in the ice this year. I'm not saying it's bad ice, but it pales to the ice in the past. That's just my opinion as a viewer though. I haven't ever skated on it, this year or anytime before, so I'm just going by what my eyes are seeing simply watching the games.

I don't know why the puck bouncing is being down played in this thread. The puck bounces a lot more than it ever used to. It bounces more at Rexall than it does in some other buildings. A couple weeks ago Gagner went face first into the boards because he caught a rut. Whitney's out for the rest of the season because he caught a rut.
...and I don't see how skating on Rexall's ice makes you qualified to say it's the best ice in the NHL. Have you skated on the other 29 team's ice? For the 3rd time....I never said the ice in Edmonton was bad.
Horcoff says it isn't what it used to be. He has it ranked 10-12 out of 30...but a guy that plays here 1-3 times a season probably knows more about the ice at Rexall than a guy that has been here for 10 years.

Do you mean me? Or "you" as in other posters. I happen to agree 100% with your post. Am I missing something here?
