Rishaug says he cleared.

Not a surprise that nobody claimed him.

There's a big difference between using hanging on as a last resort, and using it as your game plan. Also note that Semenko simply tied Brown up. He didn't start the stupid spinning leaning far away, burying his head in his opponent's chest crap that Stortini pulls.

Stortini is the laughingstock of the hockeyfights world, and for good reason. I admire your tenacity in defending him, but Edmonton fans really need to shake the "loving the losers" mentality.
WTF?!?

A third of the line-up, year in and year out, has been driftwood. Some fans get too attached to some of these AHLers and champion them a little too hard for my tastes.

All of this should be prefaced by: "This is management's failure".

I was a little bit surprised to see him waived instead of JFJ or Big Mac because I was pretty sure he had a one-way contract. I checked and sure enough, the Oil are paying him his $700,000 salary even while he plays in the AHL.

The reason I was surprised was I thought for sure JFJ and Macintyre had two-way deals, but nope, they also are on one-way contracts.

Oilers management =

we have the money. If this helps us keep some of our assets and improve our AHL team why no do it. There is no cap in the AHL and it's not like it's your own money. I don't see the problem to be honest...

This being an open board and all I'm sure you can appreciate that we don't all share your tastes .

But he's better than MacIntyre and arguably JFJ, so in that light this move makes me think someone in the Oilers brass is spending too much time at hockeyfights.com.
One thing he needs to improve is picking his spots. In the paper today, it said that he fought at the end of his shift in Dallas, hence his poor performance. I'm not sure if thats true or not, but if thats the case, why fight and ruin any sort of momentum for your team?

His willingness to fight isnt always a good thing. It usually ends up pumping up the other team.

I'm a little late to the thread but....

This move reminds me of the Brodziak trade. They moved a guy that offered an element that the team was lacking but wasn't necessarily the guy you keep going forward and then did nothing to replace him with a better player that offered the same skill set which just leaves the team with a bigger hole.

I am not upset that Stortini was moved but it does rub me the wrong way that he was moved to make room for Reddox or Omark or some other inexperienced, undersized, more of the same type player.

This management never seems to disappoint me.

And just to get this straight, in the 2nd episode of Oil Change there is a screen shot clearly showing Jacques name in what I would assume is the discard pile with Moreau and those guys and yet he not only shows up on the roster but gets a spot ahead of a guy that managed to carve out a niche form himself prior to this season.

Is this a sign of wishy washy management or what?

Good move IMO, glad that it finally happened. Next year we need to get tougher and better on our 4th line.

Given the guys that currently occupy roster spots, who do you see leaving to create openings?

Possible candidates: Reddox (due to size not quality of play)
Jacques, MacIntyre, Fraser, Jones (due to free agency)

We could have a completely different bottom 6 come next season.

I guess what I meant was when it's weighed against who do you see IN the line up as well.

Poor wording on my part but the reason I ask is that it looks to me like there are too many guys already taking up spots to do much about adding muscle or grit.

Hits are very rarely game or momentum changing. The thing about hits is that they physically wear your opponent down (on top of hopefully removing puck possession from the opponent).

I may not be right on this, but last year at the Olympics, didn't Ovechkin hit Jagr and didn't that change the momentum for the Russians, causing them to win?

And that would be perfectly fine with me. The bottom 6 needs to get bigger, stronger, meaner and chip in at both ends of the ice. I would like to see the day where Horcoff is firmly planted on third line, but the oilers are a long way from that.
