Sure they need different types of players. Players like Marty Reasoner, Fernando Pisani, Mike Grier, Todd Marchant way back when, Dean McAmmond, Mike Peca, Radek Dvorak.

That ain't Mr. Jacques.

Cleary stunk here; especially with the chances he got. That Detroit turned him into a hockey player eventually is to their credit. Dan Cleary may not have known which direction to skate in the neutral zone, but at least he could take a pass. There was always something to work with even if he seemed to have no desire or ability to make it work.

You're comparing Jacques to people with actual hockey skill who could play with the puck. That's totally improper as he cannot and does not at the NHL level.

The same 4th line opponents score more goals against our top 6 when they happen to be matched against them. This Oiler club has had lots of trouble when our top lines get out there against other clubs 3rd and 4th lines. Explain that.

Is it really our 4th line thats been the problme this year or how horrible our top 2 lines have fared?

JFJ's hitting is like Robert Nilsson's goal scoring. He lacks so much in all other areas that it's not worth it.

Well Stortini you work hard and have good flow but your fights on more than one occasion have caused me to grimace and be slightly embarrassed. An enforcer/ agitator who is easily beat down just can't be effective. As well a Stortini hug-fest probably saps so much energy from the team. With that good luck in the future hopefully you battle your way back into the NHL (albeit with a different team)

Wow, this kind of pisses me off. We're dumping Storts and keeping JFJ, Mac and Struds? Retarded.

Yeah, we love guys who put their all in a shift and Storts does this well but he can't hit, he can't fight, and he can't score - recipe for the AHL/KHL

Have their been any successful teams that didn't have a traditional 4th line??

To those praising Jacques and his hitting...

Liam Reddox is averaging more hits-per-game than Jacques. That should tell you enough right there.

JFJ is garbage. Stortini isn't much better though. I'll be happy when they're both gone.

Wow I kind of feel bad for Storts, he didn't really get a chance to redeem himself.. but at the same time he also made his own bed.

Oh well good luck to huggie bear

What type of draft pick would the Oilers give for Carcillo (rfa)?
Chorney for Carcillo. Sounds good to me.

He'll probably be a pretty good player for the Barons.

I don't think this is really that big of an issue. Stortini was given his chance to prove he was an NHL player and hasn't taken the next step as a guy who you actually -want- in your line up. He has shown little improvement over the past few seasons, not enough for me to be worried about losing him on waivers.

My question is why would Renney separate Hall from Horcoff. Hall has been on fire since Horcs return.

Lines at practice

Dustin Penner - Shawn Horcoff - Ales Hemsky
Taylor Hall - Andrew Cogliano - Ryan Jones
Magnus Paajarvi - Sam Gagner - Linus Omark
Liam Reddox - Colin Fraser - Jordan Eberle / JF Jacques

As long i Hall is with Horcoff or Eberle I'm Happy.

That would mean you're implying he actually brought some toughness and "protection" when the kids were playing. I never once saw him jump over the boards and target the other teams top player in retaliation to a hit on ours. Nor did I see him "agitate" like he did in the past. He almost looked bitter out there and his game showed. He needed to be moved.

Eberle better be still injured and not playing next game. I see no other reason why Jones would be on the 2nd lione and Eberle on the 4th???

One step forward, two steps back.

Good lord that's awful. Cogliano was playing well with Reddox and Jones in a defined defensive role. What is Hall doing on that line?

I've seen them all too Replacement. Weir. Hunter. Cleary. I remember liking Cleary even during his tough years when he just. could. not. score. But I liked his effort and the change in his focus into becoming a more well-rounded defensive player, it was noticeable on the ice.

I see that in Cogliano this year.

To compare Jacques to Weir, Hunter and Cleary? You're really stretching Replacement. Take a step back and see Jacques for what he is.

Is Jacques playing better this year? Sure is. But he played so terrible in previous years that that's not that difficult. Truly, he was bleeding terrible - as in cannot take a pass he's that bad. But he is better this year. But to compare him to Dan Cleary? Different player, different role, different result.

What does it tell you?

JFJ led this club in hits last season by a wide margin in only 49GP.

This season he'll lead all forwards on the club by a wide margin. Only Peckham hits more.

Yeah JFJ hits, a lot, its a not a lie, carry on.
