Like most players in his mold. Should we hold that against him though? I highly doubt that he's expected to be the best player on his line. If that's the case, it's not Stortini who's the problem, but the expectations people put on him.
Maybe he's not the problem, but he sure as hell isn't apart of any solution either.
Dumb move. He's an NHL regular 4th line agitator. It's just that he is a below average fighter and tried to do a middle-weight's job. He'll put up 5+ minutes a night on any 4th line in the league, hit, bring grit, and put up 5-15 points.

This will bite us.
No it won't. He's a fourth line, dime a dozen player.
Where was there ever an implication that he should carry those guys? The entire point is that he is only effective in the NHL when playing with players who are good.
The point I was trying to make in return is that you put the bar for "good" too low. Nobody's going to look very good playing on Jacques' line, but that's not whoever's fault. The question is whether he can be sufficiently effective on a fourth-line with real 4th-liners -- or do these constitute "good players" in your definition?
Seems to me like he would be, or at least he has been in the past -- which is more than you can say of some of the Oilers' forwards that were kept ahead of him. Which is why I question the move, though it was pointed out to me that the Oilers may be trying to make space for next year so contract term (Stortini has one year left) may be an issue.

hahahahahahhahahahahaha
Thanks, this just made my day even better.
He can't skate, can't fight (even middleweights), and when he hits he takes penalties.
He's an embarrassment. At least Robert Nilsson could stick handle.
the guys an AHL player who stuck in the NHL because of the Oilers lack of depth. He should be grateful for the opportunity, but he probably shouldn't expect to see NHL ice again.
Hmmm I remember mentioning stortini would be better served being waived because he's not good enough to even be in edmontons bottom 6 and I was told he was important...yyeahhh....
We may have seen the last of one of the nicest guys on the Planet. I mean the guy is so nice that even when someone wants to fight him all he wants to do is give him a hug. Now thats nice!

He's not good enough, and he deserved this.
Have you actually looked at how many of the oilers fighting majors over the last 4 or 5 years were Stortini? He's about the only guy that actually showed up physically on most nights on a butter soft hockey team.
Whats he gonna do? Teach them how to drop the gloves and hug and hang on for dear life unless the guy is 20 lbs less then u, then its safe to open up.
He was captain in Sudbury and he was a pretty vocal guy with the Oil. He'll be great in the locker room down in OKC.
I think he'll actually put up some decent numbers too. He has good hands, and shows some flashes of offense. Not to mention, he's reliable in his own end too.

I disagree with your sentiment that it's a dumb move, but you are correct to point out that Stortini's not goon, he's basically an agitator that for the most part fights his own battles. I think fans of other teams may have the wrong perception about Stortini because he's been required to be the defacto enforcer on many nights for the ultra soft Oilers of the last couple of years. He's not a good enforcer, but he's always been game (his last fight/debacle excepted).
That being said, Stortini's easily had his worst ever year in the NHL, and the main reason you waive him for assignment is because Liam Reddox has made it clear that he should not be exposed to waivers again, and Jacques hits more consistently and more effectively than Stortini.

I'm not just talking about Fighting.
He showed up physically.....and that's it.
Seriously, he's not a special player, and this isn't a life destroying loss.
