Mac is a RFA !!

Just wanted to make it clear to anyone who might have thought otherwise, Clarke MacArthur is a RFA following this season. So, there's no reason to MAKE A DECISION on him at the deadline. If Burkie does not feel comfortable signing him to a multi-year contract right now (since his value is really high at the moment), he can tender him a qualifying in the offseason and see what happens next season, plus next season Grabo's and Kulemin's contract finishes as well.

Made the thread because i have heard numerous times on tv and radio that they NEED to make a decision on MacArthur soon, which is not TRUE.

Id qualify him, see what others are willing to give, and move from there. I have no problem giving him up to 3 mill/yr but if others are willing to pay more, and we get compensated with a handful of picks, it may be something to look at.

Good lord, that's much too much and much too long. Something similar to what Kulemin got last year would be alright, maybe 250,000 more per year. A short term deal works best for both parties, gives MacArthur the chance to prove this season wasn't a fluke and doesn't handcuff the Leafs.

One good year, I wouldn't lock him up yet.

He's earned a 2 yr deal.

2 yrs 2.3 mill per.

I wouldn't mind even doing a bit higher.

I think 2.5-3 mil/year for 2 years is what it should be.

Pretty simple way to look at this:

If a team offers him more than $3.1m, let him walk and take the 1st + 3rd. If nobody offers that, sign him.

$3m should be approximately our willingness to pay on his contract.

If MacArther puts up 60 points he's MUCH more valuable than a 1st and a 3rd.

Quoted for truth. This makes to much sense. Even if a team offered to trade their first straight up for Mac, I think it would be an option Burke would have to think about hard. I don't see anyone offering $3.1 for Macarthur this summer though, based on just one good season.

IMO leafs should match any offer sheet unless it's from Edmonton.

2.3 million for a guy who could possibly end up with 65 pts?

Kulemin got that for 36 pts last year.

Mac will want at least 3.3 million

Not at $3m+.

There's way too much risk of it being a 1-year fluke. They've gotta sign him at a price that they can afford to put on the 3rd line if it comes to that.

I don't know what's all the stress about an extra 500, 000 or even a million.

i don't get it.

we will have SO MUCH cap space next year.

do you want to spend it on FAs who will most likely grossly overpay?
i'd rather use the money to retain our own.

on the current roster we have some guys who are overpaid by like 2-3 million.

i wouldn't sweat giving mcarthur (a productive guy) an extra 500 000 or w/e.

i would though be careful how long the offer is. 5 years is too long IMO.

you think 3 mil is alot for a productive guy eh?

Dion earns double that and he's been playing borderline crap, and he's awarded the captain to boot.

Offer him up to 3M, if a team matches take the 1st and run. He's a great second line guy but a chance at a first is more tempting when we're in a draft with one 1st round pick already lined up

Kulemin was going on about how he was on an NHL first line and deserved to be paid like it (might have been his agent). Took Burke a long time to sign him as he wouldn't come down to a reasonable price right away.

MacArthur on the other hand has said he'd be stupid to go anywhere else, and knows he won't get chances elsewhere like he does here. Also said he'd sign for 10 years if he could.

I see them as very different cases. Either way though, I'd love to see MacArthur locked up at 2.4 (his arbitration award last summer) and I'd be comfortable for up to 3 years at that price.

Hopefully it's less then 3 million/year. Can't overpay for one year of production.

If you give him a short deal, it's a vote of non-confidence and he will walk when he reaches UFA.

$3m is a lot for a guy with only 1 productive season. If Toronto's going to sign him to a multi-year deal, it's gotta be at a price where they can put him on the 3rd line.

Dion is overpaid.

give him his arbitration award from last year, maybe 100 grand more, and make it for 3 years, long enough for security for him, but short enough its not an issue for the teams cap situation.

2.5/year over 3 years

At the same time, Mac is playing at almost a first line clip. Any guy scoring 60+ points is a marginal first liner. Down the road if we can count on him to put up 50 points on the second line I have no issue throwing him 2.5 mill/year
