Vancouver - Ottawa

To Vancouver
Milan Michalek

To Ottawa
Mason Raymond
2nd round pick or mid level prospect (Bill Sweat or Mario Bliznak)

Mason Raymond is younger, cheaper, has game breaking speed and is still developing

Michalek is obviously the better player but has some history with injury

Both players are a bit of a gamble

Make some tweeks if you think needed.

i think the value is there, but i see milan part of the sens retool. his knee is rounding into shape and lately he's been the best sen (not saying much these days). i'd rather hang on to him but i wouldnt be upset if this trade went through.

1) the Canucks are right up against the cap (or so I've heard)
2) Raymond is valued quite highly in Vancouver so I'm not sure they agree to this.

I would think Raymond is more valuable, if only because of:

a. His more affordable contract
b. His durability in comparison to Michalek

They are very similar players. Both a speedy, two-way, ~20+ goal wingers (when healthy). and they're around the same age. So I don't see why Vancouver adds a 2nd, or anything at all.

So why are we trading him again?

Raymond is more valuable to the Canucks than Michalek.

I wouldn't do this. I think Michalek is too valuable and with his form coming back he's been a beast and probably our most valuable player.

Yeah, he looks like a guy who will be our top 3 guy for a while with Karlsson and Spezz

I honestly think that Michalek is better suited for the west and Raymond is much better suited to the East.

Canucks need some size and when you look at what guys with speed are able to do in the East I think it better for both players and both teams

Canucks just signed B. Sweatt so as much as I'd love to see him a Sen playing the Leafs 6 times a year, Gillis won't move him.

Eight regulars 6'2 or above. Twelve regulars over 200 lbs.

Ottawa wins big time, hands down. Raymond has unbelievable speed and alot more upside than Milan Michalek and the 2nd is just pointless for Canucks to add

I don't disagree with his statement...if we don't lose anything to get that size. However, I don't see Michalek being that big an upgrade on Raymond that we should give up the monster we know. In fact, I'd say it's at best a lateral move. I'll keep Raymond, if given the choice.

Michalek is also an incredibly fast skater; there's not much of a difference here. Also, "alot" more upside? Both are ~25, and perennial 20-30 goal scorers who have good two-way games. It's as close as it gets here.

Sorry, just to clarify - I was pointing out that the Canucks have plenty of "size."

Ottawa is getting too much in the deal IMO; I think a Raymond for Michalek trade would be much closer to straight up. I don't think Vancouver has any room to take that much salary right now, either.

The number that was floating around when Elder was healthy was that they had 1.8 mil in cap space. Salo basically takes over Edlers cap hit so they should still have 1.8mil.

Raymond makes 2.5mil so you add the 1.8 to that and its 4.3 mil which is what Michalek makes.

I still think he is the better player with more upside and if not for the injury history, Raymond and a 2nd doesn't get it done. Because of the injuries I think the value is fair.

considering they have similar upside, and Michalek has the injury concerns, i wouldn't want to take on that extra cap-hit for what could very well equate to a basically lateral move.

value isn't that far off though on a straight across trade though, i guess.

no to Michalek. Raymond is more important to the Canucks.

They're not allowed to trade contracts you know - the Canucks have to accomodate the extra quarter of a million on Salo's deal to get him back into the lineup.

We've got the space already. Edler's 3.25 allowance is more than enough and we can add another $2mil in salary as well.

I can't tell if you are being serious or just as a55hole but the point was that numbers are pretty much the same

I just can't see Gillis moving Bill. The one for one trade would actually be reasonable but i doubt the Canucks have cap to cover it.
