Actually, it is as Murray hasn't proven that he's capable of playing 20+ minutes a night, espec. Gleason can. With Gleason you have a much more balanced defensive unit.

Boyle-Gleason
Murray-Vlasic
Demers-Wallin/Huskins

You run into the Vlasic/Wallin problem with Murray. No real outlet ability, although Murray protects the puck better than Wallin. They really need to get to a minimum of 3 PMDs.

Sharks second rounder for every puck he puts in his own net?

That's not realistic. Gleason is a high-end second-pairing defenseman that is only 28 years old. He is a UFA after this season, but that is not going to depreciate his trade value that much. Carolina can do far, far better than a forward that maxes out as a third-liner and a defenseman that really doesn't have any trade value at all.

I wouldn't deal Setoguchi for Pitkanen. I know that the Sharks are desperate for defensemen, but Pitkanen is not the right fit at that price. He is a great puck-mover and his passing and skating would definitely help the Sharks break out, but his defensive style does not fit the Western Conference style. Pitkanen is insanely soft in his own zone and would get dominated in a conference that is loaded with huge, physical, elite forwards. That is not worth dealing Setoguchi for. Don't forget, Setoguchi is only 23 and played a huge role in the playoffs last year. He represents the only young talent the Sharks have on the wing. They would be stupid to deal him for anything less than a young defenseman with a strong all-around game, which Pitkanen is certainly not.

As for Joe Corvo, well:

I dont agree.

The value is there, but i envision a Petrecki-Doherty pairing in the future.

Not a chance - Vlasic/Wallin issue. I can see the possibility of both on the Sharks but with different partners who compensate for their shortcomings.

Agreed that the pairing wouldn't work but mostly for a lack of footspeed. IIRC Doherty is a decent puck-mover? Certainly better than both Vlasic and Wallin. I could definitely be wrong though.

What's the story with Setoguchi production wise? After having such a big year a couple years back, his points have declined from 36 last year to a pace of 29 this year. Do you see him rebounding and playing at the form he did in 2008-2009 again? Or is it possible he's another Milan Michalek in that he has a big year early on, then sort of flounders and can't replicate such impressive numbers again?

Do you see him ever coming back into 08-09 form?

Yes. And possibly no. Most people are pretty well convinced that Seto has the tools, but not the mentality right now. He's skilled, plays hard, but there's a swagger that's missing from his game. It looks a lot like he gets into his own head. As such, it depends on whether or not he can over come it. I'm in the camp that as a 24 year old, he's young enough that it's not inherently an issue, and that he'll rebound. But it does sort of depend on that.

What CB said there. Having seen him in enemy territory he has been skating a bit faster now and actually trying to make an effort. But the only reason he seems to be lighting the fire as they say is he knows he's trade bait.

let's see what this road trip does this week and next for him.

But back to 08-09 form. That is so hard to say. But I would go with a no on that.

He's a hard worker on the ice, but off the ice he's reported to spend more time clubbing than practicing. When he decides to focus 100% of his attention on hockey, he'll return to form, or better. Like CB said, he gets in his own head, that will fade with maturity.

It's difficult to answer that, but there's no reason to think that he can't. When he came into the league, Setoguchi showed a strong chemistry with Joe Thornton and he became a fixture on Thornton's wing at the beginning of that 2008-09 season. He had a fantastic season playing with Thornton and Patrick Marleau, but that entire line flamed out in the first round against Anaheim, likely more due to Marleau's nagging groin injury that hampered him for the last couple months of the regular season. Setoguchi was never able to recapture that chemistry with Thornton last year, and battled injuries and inconsistency all season. He was given a chance to play with Thornton/Marleau and Thornton/Heatley, but never fit in.

Setoguchi managed to score 20 goals in 70 games as a 23 year old last year, in what was a down season for him. Through the first two rounds of the playoffs, he might have been the Sharks' third-best forward, behind Thornton and Pavelski and on par with Ryane Clowe and Dany Heatley. His line (Clowe-Pavelski-Setoguchi) carried the Sharks against Colorado, and he scored the OT winner in Game 2 to tie the series. That should not go unnoticed, being that he is still only 24 and has thrived in an environment with insane pressure. Few teams will ever face the type of pressure that the Sharks did last year going into the playoffs, and Setoguchi helped keep them afloat until Joe Thornton went berserk in the Detroit series and subsequently brought Patrick Marleau back from the dead. It's one of the reasons I don't want to deal him for anything less than a slam-dunk.

FWIW: Marleau had a sprained MCL and JT had the groin/hip flexor injury

Yay, I was right.

But to this day, I don't get what "days" mean there - is that the period they've had the injury before entering the playoffs?
