I got my hall and eberle jerseys signed today and also got paajarvi and Omark signed 8x10s but I was also there at 8:30 and I got so lucky with Omark, just saw him walking down the mall. I also won the ATB private autograph session after the public one with gagner, cogliano and Gilbert. Just an awesome awesome day, would nit be possible with out my girlfriend waiting in some of the lines for me.
did they give signed player cards to people this year that didnt make it to the players?
they usually do this (well back in the day)
except tommy salo, they gave me a card with no signature
I got an unsigned Jones card and then as I was making my way through the crowd(it was packed so we weren't moving very fast) another girl came around and gave me one that was signed.
Got there around 9:45. Hall's line at this point was already extended from Bay to Sears. I finally got my turn around 2:20 - guessing the line was closed pretty shortly after. Line was still extremely long when I left, so I'm guessing alot of people went home dejected and demoralized for waiting 3-4 hours only to get walk away empty handed.
Saw a few kids at ~2:30 crying.
During the one and only autograph sesion I've ever bothered going to (Mitchell with the Canucks), they gave out tickets to the first x number of people in line. So if you aren't there early enough at least you don't have to wait around for hours to find that out. I'd be kind of bummed if I waited there for hours to not get anything...
Anyways how long way the Brule line? Short? If he's still around next year I might go since I loved him when he was with the Giants.
I was there with my neice and nephew. We were in Hemsky and JF Jacques line first, and it moved pretty quickly. We got up to the front of the line and I was asked if they are siblings, and if they can take a picture of them with JFJ. They took the kids around the table, sat my nephew on JFJ's lap and my niece stood beside them. To top it off, they made it on the Oilers website It is pic 6 of 26...and basically the only pic of JFJ.

i hated ppl like you who had their friends' kids standing in lines for them and then butted in after they got their shizz signed somewhere else. After standing in a line for over an hour it was pretty annoying to see other ppl pull this shiz.

If it's one guy holding a spot for 10 people then it's not cool but I don't see a problem with what Cybertron84 did.
You have 90 minutes to get as much signed as you can. A little help from a friend isn't a big deal.

Yea no **** not like I was in every line. If my girlfierd stands in a line and I'm in another and she getting things signed for me what's the problem. Not like I'm holding spots running around the mall like a jackass pal
That's a cool picture. The kids look pretty excited.
Ya, my nephew is smiling which is a shocker...he is EXTREMELY painfully shy. Almost as shocking as the fact that he replied to Fraser when he talked to him.

Yes it is fair to the people who wait in line for an hour only to see someone's BF hop in ahead of them. Afterall your 90mins > everyone else's so you should get everyone's signature while others are lucky to get through 2 tables.

If she is getting things signed for you then that is not an issue. The issues is when she is getting things signed for herself and you tag along and get things signed for yourself.

That still should even be an issue if someone is willing to stand I line with there friends to get **** signed shouldn't matter. It's the people that bud in line all day that are the problem. I think your just a little bitter about the whole thing

Then don't stand in line for that player. If you or your kid are absolutely dying for Eberle's autograph and only Eberle, get out of bed and show up early, put in the time and effort and you'll get it. If you just want to "meet" (for ten seconds) a few players, get some signatures, get there at 11 and go visit some of the other tables.
I think the Oilers do the best they can with this. It's free and every player is involved. There's no priority to one type of fan over another. If you don't want to wait in line, pay attention to other autograph signings the players do over the course of the season or stand outside Rexall and take your chances there.
So, I called the Oilers office, and they said "due to the WJC and the players schedule, there will be no autograph session this year".
I was rather unimpressed since I have 3 jerseys that I have been waiting nearly a year to get signed, but then I started thinking about the reason...how the **** does the WJC, a trny in December, effect a signing at the end of February? I mean, it's not like they are on the road every weekend for the rest of the year...I know they play on these Sundays coming up at home, they couldn't do it for 3 years on that Sat?
Anyways, I tried to get them to tell me whether they would ensure they had it next year, but they couldn't guarantee it and they said they had no other plans for any other signings.
Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy? I hear about guys from other teams doing signings all the time throughout the year, and the Oilers cancel the ONE event they have in an 8 month span? That's just sad.
Anyways, the productive part of this post comes now. Does anyone get autographs during the season? Trying to figure out when is the best time to get them?
After the pregame skate?
After a non-gameday practice?
After the game itself?
At their house after using goodle maps, i.e. Howard Wolowitz?
I was invited to a VIP autograph session on March 11th with Hall and Eberle as part of the Kevin Smith contest I won. It is a 15 minute session at the Telus store... Hardly VIP...
Anyways, where can I find large high res pictures of them that I could get signed and framed?

Seems like a typical Patrick LaForge esque cop-out. WJC? Seriously? Seriously?
I've taken my younger relatives in 3 of the past 4 years. They enjoyed it. It was the one day a year the Oilers provided accessibility to the general public. A shame they have no plans this year.
Looking at the calendar, several dates could have fit in the Oilers schedule (January 14, 22, February 18, March 3, March 11, March 17)

They owe it to their fans.
Agreed, terrible excuse. There ae plently of dates that would have worked fine, but a team that's been in the basement for years while raising ticket prices annually can't manage to provide the fans 3 hours of their time.
Like, really? That's pathetic. It's 3 hours of signing out of 365 days of the year.
Was planning to get a jersey signed for myself and my nephew, but I am not sure how I will manage that anymore.

January 14 - Team Skills Competition
January 22 - Could have probably been possible though team held a lengthy practice / bag skate that day.
February 18 - Team event for season ticket holders
March 3 - Team is in Palm Springs
March 11 - On the road the day before, probably need to practice that day with a game on Monday
March 17 - Need to practice later in the day, likely no skate the next day with a 6pm game
This is disappointing. For all the **** the organization has put us through in the last few years, having the team show up in WEM for 90 minutes to sign autographs HARDLY seems like a tall order. Really disappointing.

Any help is good help guys!!
It's interesting that you received that response when you called. When I called I received this response that they "are revamping a few things and the WEM Session was one of them and therefore they would not be having one this year."
As for getting autographs, I have had good luck going after a gameday skate. Most of the player's will stop and sign on the way out after practice. For an 8:00 pm game they usually start to leave around 10:30 (usually the last guy leaves around 12:30).
The last few years in particular the WEM session has been insane (long line ups with people lining up as early as 5 am, players wanting to stay late and sign like Ryan Jones last year only to be given heck by security and the prevalent problem of people arriving at the last minute and budding in line to join a friend or family member). I agree that the WEM session needs to be "revamped" because of problems that I detailed. I definitely do not agree with the session being cancelled as it seems the players are out in the community doing signing less and less each year. I have a great deal of respect for their schedules and the amount of charity work they do in our beloved city don't get me wrong. It is just unfortunate as other individuals have indicated in this thread that the children who idolize the Oiler players increasingly have fewer chances to meet their heroes (i.e. the changes in the Kids Club referenced as well as the cancellation of the WEM session).
I can only speculate that perhaps with the increasing popularity and caliber of the players that the signings are infrequent because of eBay and those who chose to sell the autographs that they obtain. Another explanation could be the contract stipulations certain players have as well as the contracts they have with certain companies (i.e. ProAm Sports or AJ's Sportsworld). It is unfortunate to the legitimate Oiler fans, children and adults alike who just collect autographs for the sheer love of their team that these opportunities are few and far between.
I, myself am in an age bracket where the players could assume that I am a "seller", which I am not. For the most part when I go to get autographs (after a game day skate) the majority of the players will sign for me. If I have a photo or jersey to get signed I will often ask for it personalized. I rarely come with multiple items nor do I go ever time they are in town. I also wear one of my many current roster player crested jerseys and Oiler colours and I approach all players for an autograph. To me a Corey Potter, Andy Sutton, Darcy Hordichuk or Lennert Petrell autograph is as valuable to me as a RNH, Hall, or Eberle signature. It saddens me to stand outside with 30+ people on a Saturday a.m. to only see the vast majority of the people approach the star player's.

Well, I may try this route, otherwise I will be waiting for a year to get another chance I guess, unless they have a mid-season one with a couple of the kids.
