I have a confession...

When we did our personal top prospects list during the offseason... I had dropped Paul Byron to nearly out of the top 20. I thought he was never going to be an NHL regular in any capacity.

but I can tell you, I'm very impressed with him. Not only his on ice play, but his demeanor off the ice.

I feel a man crush developing

I think you guys need a couple of more dates together before it can be determined if this is just a fling or the beginning of something more enduring.

I'd rather watch a team full of guys like Gerbe and Byron give a full effort every game than one with what is considered good NHL size where the team takes half the games off.

I'm still pretty "meh" with Byron.

Maybe it's because he's yet another small guy. But so far he's not leaping off the page to me. Don't get me wrong, he's played well. But I still want to see more before I consider him a true threat at cracking the lineup in the near future.

Sure he's got 1 goal and 1 assist in 2 NHL games. But really his goal was totally gift wrapped by Ennis. His assist was a measly secondary as the goal was all from the pass Gerbe made. So while yes 2pts in your first 2 NHL games is great on paper. I need to see more from him. So far so good though.

Same here. 2 games isn't nearly enough for me to judge how good a young player is. Although I have liked him in those 2 games.

I nabbed him after his second game in my long-term keeper league, I just get that vibe about him that there's something special there.

Obvious homer crush, but sometimes they pay off...right? Right?

If he stays up long enough to get a decent look... I hope it gets to the point (him playing that well, that is) where both you and I declare he's ready to play in the NHL Who were the last two guys we both argued that for.... let's see.... Kaleta and Weber?

On the '10-11 edition Sabres, Hecht would have deflected that pass to the end boards, and Neidermayer is so slow he would have had to veer left to finally corral that pass at the top of the left faceoff circle.

Pominville would have deflected it right into the goalie's chest or broken his stick.

Any of the defenseman would have deflected it in off their skate and had the goal overturned.

Kaleta would have run into the goalie and had interference called.

Vanek would have tried a drop pass between his legs.

Glad to see I am not the only one who had these thoughts pop into their mind.

having watched Byron this season in the minors, I am not shocked to see him fitting in. How he might do over the long grind of a season is another thing.

Holy crap, all of those are so damn true...

It was a great pass from Ennis, but you gotta give Byron some credit for actually speeding to the net as he did and popping it in. I may just be spacing because it's late... but I can't think of a person on this team that would've done that lol.

Does everyone think Byron has a future at center, or do you think his eventual position is on the wing? He's gone 11-12 so far in the faceoff dot, but I've liked his hustle and two-way play and he has some offensive ability. I think he could have a future at center in the bottom six with two bigger wingers.
