This could probably be part of the PGT, but I think it's more of a team issue.
For those not listening, Tencer mentioned a few times that not one player went over to Khabi after the penalty shot stop and thanked him for the huge stop. Dan also said it seemed like the players didn't show any sort of reaction on the bench.
Reading too much in to it perhaps, but it does pose a question, is this still a group of individuals playing on a team together, or is this indeed a team?

I say a team of individuals. How often do you see players standing up for each other? Not very often.
actually smid was pretty excited about the save. I don't really blame them, this team sucks. we need to get a bunch of SOB's on this team: Neil, Ruutu, heck even guys like Lapierre, and Clutterbuck types and just be nasty. Usually that brings teams together.
I'm not sure I agree they showed the bench after the penalty shot and they seemed to be quite happy. Smid definitely was.
I don't think anything was to do with the team not meshing. The Oilers just SUCK. Constant losses has dulled their expectations. They go into every game expecting to lose because it makes it easier to accept the seemingly inevitable outsome. It's easier to not get too emotionally involved at this point. It's sad really.
My opinion/interpretation, but it seems like the team plays harder when Dubnyk is between the pipes. Dunno if it's lack of faith in Khabi or "Here we go again..." when he lets in the one or two typical softies. Or they just care more about helping DD get a W that they have more effort.

Yeah, this... I'm not sure what Tencer is seeing and hearing here.
Anyway, I wouldn't blame the players. Gotta love how Five-Hole Bulin just decides to start making some pretty saves in the third period. How's about stopping the first Kings goal that Smyth tipped needlessly? The puck was going in regardless and he had no idea where it was.
I felt bad for Khabby tonight. First goal was a bit soft, but he didn't lose them that game.
I also didn't understand how a penalty shot was called on that play. I thought penalty shots were for breakaways or gloving the puck in the crease. There were two players beside the net when Smid hauled down his man.
As others mentioned, they showed the bench after the save and Smid and Peckham were super excited. Peckham yelled out "Yesssssssss"after the save and Smid did a fist pump.

Starting this thread pretty much guaranteed that Tencer gets his knuckles rapped by his boss tomorrow . Good job .
- players on this team for the most part are role players and cant handle their role as a real NHL leader to carry the team over a season. Horcoff is obviously the best/closest. everyone else just mopes, hides in the shadows or is too young (or crappy) to take it on.
- you reap what you sow. simple as that. a team made of passive role players and "meh" dudes is going to get you that sort of attitude over a depressive season. its just too bad the kids have to learn under that sort of Crapola.

So are we rebuilding or resetting? Seems to be that in 3-5 years when we assume we'll be powerhouses, We'll have a group of talented unmotivated players surrounded with young motivated untalented players. I hope Hall and Eberle really are winners, and not just good hockey players. This team is gonna go nowhere if 55 games into the season, they still can't figure out how to gain the zone on the PP, or better yet if it takes them four seasons to realize that faceoff wins and defensively aware veterans are probably a good thing to have around.
Dan Tencer is a JOKE! He can barely skate so I don't know how he got a job being a hockey annalist. I have listened to 630 ched my whole life, but no longer do because of idiots like him and Bob Stauffer. I know we have the worst team in hockey but do we need to have the worst media personnel as well. Basically the easiest way to respond this thread is what would Dan Tencer know about team chemistry to begin with. He probably has never even been apart of a hockey team in his life
.

I could have sworn at the end of the replay of Khabi stopping the penalty shot. That they had a slow-mo shot of the bench and Smid, Peckham etc... little cheers / fist pumps when he made the save.
Am I the only one that saw that replay? Nevermind I just noticed Oilfan#81 mentioning it as well.

Yeah, I don't expect the guys to react like they just won the Cup or anything. I think Tencer is just trying to start drama. It's not easy on these guys being so crappy, but there is nowhere near the friction that was prevalent last season.

I quite enjoy Tencer. I think for his age, he is quite knowledgable. Believe me go to some american cities and listen to their media talk about hockey, you will ache for Tencer, Stauffer and the rest. I think they do a fairly good job and getting the news we need to us. I know some are a little too close to the team, but Tencer particularly doesn't seem to cowtow to the Oil Bosses. I've heard him rip Tambellinni pretty good on occasion. Just my opinion, flame away.

true, and did you see anyone go over and tell Doughty to scram when he was churping off at Hall i believe it was just before the 2nd period was starting? i didn't from my TV standpoint. maybe someone who was at the game can tell me if someone did. tell you what, if someone is churping off at my team's best player, i'm skating on over to have a few words with the guy, that's for sure!!

No doubt how much more excited can a guy get than fist pumps??? Fist pumps are the pnultimate form of expressing excitement.
