I think it is likely that the only coincidence is that Gillis needs to know what the answer is going into the deadline. I wouldn't be shcoked to see Salo in the canucks lineup next week but I also wouldn't be surprised if Salo shuts it down for the year.
Maybe that "plateau" was simply a play on words...seeing as how you can't get any better than perfectly healed, maybe Salo did "plateau", to do the point where all he needed was some game time and cap space.

Wow, Sami is tearing it up! I'm glad to hear he's playing well. Maybe he gets his first pro hat trick!

Hahah.

Can't wait to have him back. He's always a huge boost offensively 5 on 5 and especially on the PP (opens up all the downlow ice for cross slot passes.)

I, like most people here had a feeling that when Edler went down, it wouldn't be too long before Salo made an appearance.
Glad to see him playing well on the Moose and i can't wait till next saturday when he hopefully plays his first game for vancouver this season.

Lol, two goals already for Salo. Looks like AHL goaltenders just can't handle the heat of his shot.

Can't be, Dave Tomlinson said his shot was gone. And Tomlinson played in the NHL, you know.

Taking nothing away from Sami the past few years, but maybe he comes back this year even better? That long layoff has probably allowed the lingering shoulder/groin injuries to completely heal which should allow Salo to join the rush and release the Finnish McInnis more regularly. There's no doubt in my mind that Sami's skating and shot suffered the past few years from those nagging injuries despite him still being the most sound defenseman on the canucks.

I always thought that if they somehow managed to turn Salo into a cyborg... he'd be a perennial Norris contender every year

David Beckham had the same injury and to the reported same degree. Reports said David blew out the entire achilles, just like Salo's. He took 5 months to recover from it before playing competitively again and he even publicly reported he had a set back early in the injury recovery process. Salo has said himself, there were no setbacks during the recovery process, progressing as much as he can. Both are similar age, had the same injury, had the same surgeon, same recovery.

The Plateau i believe Gillis refers to is the one all hockey players face when they have a long time off from competitive hockey. A player can only do so much in practice. Yes, we're talking about practice. Playing an actual game is at a higher pace and they need to test that he can handle it. Now he is.
I don't think our opinions differ by much or at all really. HE needs to test it and see if he can go.
