Won't happen.

Hawks need a Dman, but not one at $3M for another two years after this one. Especially when you consider his injury history and the fact that it's within the division.. it won't happen.

I like Klesla but that's a solid return for him

Klesla brings a little bit of everything, including much needed size and checking. He does get hurt from time to time but with all of the young D-men we have at Rockford, it would give them opportunities to come up while he is on LTIR and break into the league slowly.

So, you're saying Stalberg has an injury history?

Rostislav Klesla GP per year

03-04: 47
05-06: 51
08-09: 34
09-10: 26

Now unless he was benched considerably, or took a lenghty vacation I'd assume by looking at that, that he's had some injury issues.

I think Leek was trying to play Jedi Mind Tricks on you.

Oh, you mean Klesla. I thought you meant Stalberg.

No Rusty wasn't injured or on vacation. Columbus gave him time off to work with poor orphaned children in the area. Apparently his work is done, so he swears he will need no more time off, other than right now, when he is wrapping up some things for the orphans.

The 2nd rounder would be enough, but we'll take Stalberg anyways.

Random injury history, not anything within a pattern. It's not a guy who injures his knee, then his groin, then his hip, then his ankle. It's basically a bunch of completely random occurrences. He jumps to reach a puck and tears abdominal muscles. He gets checked from behind into an open bench door and suffers a severe thigh bruise. Most recently, he gets his leg pinned under him and strains his quad right above the knee. And so on.

So he's made of glass? That's just as bad.

Couple of issues

- Doesn't work under cap
- He isn't as good as he was before injuries
- He is signed for 3 more years at nearly 3 mil a year

So this deal wouldn't work for a variety of reasons + Blue Jackets are still in playoff race and unlikely to trade within division

Freak occurances =/= made of glass

That being said, he's had some injury issues, and they can't be ignored.

He's actually gotten progressively better over time. He's our best D-man but a lot of people in Columbus just don't like that he has really bad luck and manages to get injured like last year tearing both a groin and abdominal muscle at the same time putting him out for the whole year. Plus it took him so long just to be good, people were hoping he would be good (offensively) right after he was drafted in 2000. His offensive game has never really developed that much but he is really good at his defensive play.

I prefer to hold onto Klesla, if this were a 2nd rounder in the 2012 draft I might be inclined to say okay.
