Thanks Connie for being so great to the city. You will truly be missed, as you were one of a kind. Never have I seen such a positive character, and such a happy guy. Hopefully he gets a job with the team as a scout or something.
I would love it if he takes a job with the organization. Maybe soon he could be an assistant coach. I bet TSN will be calling for him as well though. All the best Conroy, you are a hero to this city!
Although he will not be remembered as one of the best Flames of all time, he will be one my all time favorite Flames and I am sure the whole Flames community will feel the same way. Nothing bad to say about the guy, and the fact that he put in the kind of effort he did this year and the way he handled this whole situation speaks to the kind of character the guy has.
"I want to thank Miikka for giving Craig a hard time about his shirt!" -Ken King
HAHAHA!!! You just have to love the camaraderie between these guys!
Conny is such a classy person and I couldn't be happier as a fan to see him continue to be part of the organization. Congrats on an excellent career and congrats on this next chapter of your career and life, Craig! You are a true role model for all of us when it comes to hard work, class and generosity!
Just going to copy and paste what I said on the main board topic:
Thanks for everything, Connie. c:
For those who are wondering, he'll be continuing on his career as part of the management of the Flames.
His new title will be Special Assistant to the General Manager or something to that effect - duties would basically include information liaison between players and management, as well as Abbotsford affiliation as a GM scout reporting on the Flames' developing players.
He'll be missed in the dressing room... one last round of drinks tonight I'm guessing. c:
Craig Conroy is my favorite player of all-time. When we acquired him I was livid, pissed of that Cory Stillman was moved for a grinder. Then he started playing for us and soon he was a fan favorite. I am honored that Craig Conroy spent half his career as a Calgary Flame, the guy is pure class and he will be missed.
On a side note, Mrs. Conroy you will also be missed. You will hold a special place in our hearts as one of the most gorgeous hockey wives in our franchise history

Haha... I still remember watchin' that PPV feature during an intermission, on Conroy's family, where they had his daughters on the ice skating. Mrs. Conroy then comes on and my roomate and I just looked at each other in awe like, "THAT is Craig's wife? DAMN!" I'm sure Conroy still wishes he were playing hockey, but I have to say, going home to her looks to me like pretty good consolation prize, lol.
On Conroy's duties in his Special Assistant role for Feaster:
Quote:
The real clincher came when Feaster sent him a list of tasks involved with his new role.
Conroy will liaise between the players and management in Calgary and make some visits to Abbotsford to speak with prospects. He might also be assigned to special projects that include scouting work for Feaster.
"Right away I was excited with it," said Conroy. "It's actually a job. I'm going to be learning and building on things."
From the Flames' perspective, it was a no-brainer.
"It was very easy to put a job description together of the areas that Craig can be a tremendous asset for this organization," said Feaster. "I just think it's a tremendous resource for us. I'm very, very excited to have him on board. He's going to be a great addition to the management group."
I understand there's a bit of a priority order to it, but I'm going to say it anyways.
They should put #24 in the rafters. 10 Seasons, former captain and one of the most beloved players in franchise history, that's enough reason to retire his number.

I agree... in fact I think we should unretire #9 and #30...
then do what the Leafs do and Honor players rather than take the number out of circulation... then we can honor more guys, especially the likes of Conroy, Otto and Pepper who were beloved members of the Flames but just simply not good enough to get their number retired
