Gaborik doesn't step up in big games. He didn't do it last season and he hasn't done it this season. He's a guy who is totally useless if he isn't scoring. Have you noticed that teams don't even shadow or match against him?
Kinda sad, but still, you have to keep him. Trading him does the organization no good, because the minute he leaves, there will be a huge void the organization can't fill
hes not scoring anyway so what does it matter? trade for TOP prospects and draft picks that hopefully will fill the void in a couple of years.
Ok there's one. But then on the other side there's Zherdev, Kovalchuk, Gaborik, Frolov, S.Kostitsyn, Kovalev, Malkin. That's just the beginning. I don't think they're all soft, in fact most aren't, but that stereotype has been earned, especially by the higher paid ones.
Gaborik's a goal scorer? He only lights up the Islanders, Oilers, and Leafs this year. He's scored in 9 games this season? I already said I'm not getting into that Euro debate. He is contributing nothing to this team, he's been invisible. He is an elite finisher not an elite player that's the bottom line. Again, if there's a good offer in the off season for a high ranked prospect I do it.
I'm not defending Gabe, he's been underachieving, no doubt. BUT, us getting somewhere in the playoff(if we get there) includes Gabe get his game going. That's why we keep him, imo.
Just on the Rangers there are Erik Christensen, Wojtek Wolski(spent most of childhood in Canada and is a Canadian citizen), and Matt Gilroy. Thats just one team. If I thought about it I'm sure I could come up with a lot of players on other teams as well.
