You're right. I'm not really familiar with the avatar file size restrictions, it seems like some people have larger avatars than others. I feel like it'd be better just to allow hotlinking to off-site avatars.

When I change my avatar it says 49k size limit. Not sure if it's the same for everyone or what.
When I put together avatars in photoshop and animate them, they're usually double that. So I end up reducing the quality and get some grainy frames.
we should all grow playoff beards and update the avatar daily (or at least on game days) to show progress

I'd love something Alzner-related, but I can't think of anything funny at the moment.
The perfect one for Alzner should center around the fabulous beard he grew last year during the AHL playoffs. That thing was right up there with that one guy on Detroit who's playoff beard was so thick it looked like he had a red headed Cousin It on his face.
So make something like the Arnott one, accept instead the uniform changing, Alzner turns into something like a red-headed Rumple Stillskin.

I love the Alznerbeard and John "Fist Pump" Carlson requests. Can't wait to see those.
Here's a thought: As the games progresses so do the beards. Each couple of games or so, we update our avatar's beards to match the real life player's beards.
Also, if we get Buffalo in the first round, an Ovechkin OT goal dance avatar would be awesome to troll the Sabres fans. After reading their GDT thread, I gathered that they hated it.
