Looks like the Oilers better hope the new CBA will have restrictive strings on rookies salaries as they will need a lot of money to sign Marc Antoine Pouliot, Jessi Niinimaki, Deven Dubnyk and Robbie Schremp as 1st rounders always ask for the max and Pouliot needs to be signed by June 1, 2005 or he goes back in.
Also, guys like Jacques, Stortini will also need to be signed.
As said, loads of $$ will be needed to sign a lot of these draft picks.
I'm pretty sure the new CBA (when or if it comes) is going to limit the rookie cap to $850,000 including bonuses. Some of them make close to 4 million right now with bonuses so I think it's a good move.
Yeah, the players are full of it. Their rhetoric about "fighting for the guys coming up like the players in 94 did for us" is going to look pretty shallow. Rookies will be the first chip sacrificed by the players and games played (down below 75 from 82) will be the first one given up by the owners. That is after that nasty cost certainty thing is resolved...around 2006.
