Heh, said he didn't need to send a list 'cause he'd be on for a while, and now he's gone offline...

Reen, you know who to tell your cardiologist to send the bill to...

Damn, I have a totally awesome, radical concept for an ATD team. I wish I could have a do-over! This idea is so ****ing awesome, I would have had so much fun trying to build the team. It would have been interesting to see what the reception would have been.

There's only a few picks per team done so far. You could try trading for the players you want.

I agree.

And if Denneny "won" that comparison, it would only be because no one has taken the time to analyze 700 games worth of Dickie Moore clippings one by one.

We are in round 4 and are on the 3rd draft thread. We need to get back to posting when necessary and not just when we want to comment on how bored we are.

Thank you.

If I can get a maximum three trades rule exemption, then I guess I could.

I'd change my team name, and start shopping Sakic, Cook, and Tremblay for the highest available draft picks.

Well you can always play the "rebuild your team" game once the draft is over.

Just like when I took Ullman, Francis wasn't the BPA, but he's close, and he's definately a perfect fit to play with Nels Stewart.

HHH, I would have bet on him picking Francis btw.

Thanks yas.

Speaking from an outsider point of view, HHH's guess would have been a better bet :p

This is not a quote-compiling competition.

In-game quotes are nice seasoning, but biographical references are worth much more. When a book says "he was tough", that's better than "he played tough tonight" - I can't think of any bio books I have that would neglect to mention Moore's great intangibles. Denneny's just not at that level.

It won't happen. The same game descriptions from the early years don't exist in more modern newspapers.

just think of how great you could make Tampa Bay's second line center look with game by game quotes and that should show how absurd the strategy is.

True enough, though I think gaining a large enough body of them, they start to stack up to some of the greater quotes.

And the thing is with a Moore vs Denneny comparison is, other than the THN 100 quote (that I think a lot of people did a big "?" too, and it's not a particularly solid publication), Moore's quotes ere a lot more on the side of toughness and leadership. Denneny was less a leader, but he was definitely very tough which is mentioned a number of times in the general bios. Moore likely still has an edge in that sense, but I am not seeing (after reading his bio) what makes it such a stronger edge over Denneny's offense that necessitates a 30-40 pick gap between them.

And based on the above we're starting to tread into the "let's be kind of dismissive to the many hours of work quote gathering because we don't like what one is suggesting might be the case as a result of it, and are assuming we'd find a comprable amount to a lot of players without actually putting the same effort in proving it". Which seems woefully contradictorary to what the ATD is about.

I was under the impression Denneny always slipped and got considered lower because of his canon flaws. Those canon flaws are gone and I thus questioned his canon rating.

Trueish. I haven't done enough searching for 06 guys since there's never been a mandate for it, but from what I've had read, the accounts can be rather detailed (in the playoffs at least.

That's what I'm trying to explain to Jarek for the last two days. He's trying to convince me that when a journalist says: ''his pace never slowed during the game.'', it means that he was fast. That when they say ''Denneny stopped Shore, raced around the defense and scored from the wing,'' raced means that Denneny was fast. I find this kind of research misleading and false, as for me it's only a turn of phrase used by writers.

Am I the only one who thinks that, or am I right?

No, I think you're right.

jarek wants to believe the absolute best about everything he reads.

It depends on the quote, but there are quite a few that would fall into this area.
