Thats great that you are following Atlanta but what is the point? Carolina is the team in 8th, whats 9th going to do for us?

Gotta get past the 9th place team before you can get past the 8th.

Besides, ATL and CAR are currently tied at 58 points apiece. So I imagine that eighth spot will flop back and forth a couple of times. And who knows, maybe Carolina will go into a tailspin.
Since Atlanta is ahead of Buffalo in the standings, I'd say that watching them is just as pertinent as Carolina.

Either way, Buffalo needs to keep winning games, or none of it matters in the end.

just broke down carolina's schedule (i realize we still have to win games) and i don't like what i see if i am a carolina fan:

NJD (3)
PHI (2)
TBL (4)
ATL (3)
NYR (1)
PIT (1)
MTL (2)
FLA (1)
BUF (3)
CHI (1)
WAS (2)
CLB (1)
TOR (1)
NYI (2)
OTT (1)
DET (1)

also, and this might be a big note:

20 of those 29 games are part of back-to-backs. i can see them absolutely tanking.

Games in hand only mean anything if you win them. We gotta win them.

Also, add the Rangers to the scoreboard watching. Our games in hand bring them into reach as well.

Our next 4 games are against teams we have mightily struggled against this year (Montreal, Tampa, Florida and NYI). We have a 2-9 record combined against all those teams this year. I'm not saying our playoff hopes are done because of this, but I'm not gonna get too excited at this point.

3 of those teams we should beat if this is truly a playoff team. There is no excuse if they lose to the Islanders or Panthers especially. They can split the other two for all I care.

Didn't we say that before every Islanders and Panthers game this year? And look what happened...

OMG, even when someone is wrong they make **** up to try to be right. Atlanta means nothing to us. We have games in hand to move past them. You keep watching Atlanta the rest of us will follow Carolina. Don't worry guy keep watching them.

This is where good GM's follow Carolina at the trade deadline and make sure if they can steal a trade away from them to get better then they do. If we watch Carolina trade to get a better team while we sit on our hands then we are ****ed.

Games in hand aren't automatic wins. Atlanta is still ahead of us.

I think the only realistic way to look at current standings is by winning percentage. Assuming games in hand are losses to compute your ranking is exactly as absurd as assuming they are all wins.

And Buffalo's .529 is better than Atlanta's .518, but worse than Carolina's .546 and New York's .554.

I would personally rather have the games in hand and control my own destiny than watching team's behind you try to make a run at you with them.

Actually, it's go Thrashers. We have so many games in hand on the Thrash, we're really chasing the Rags for 7th place (and they're already in reach with our games in hand). Our playoff percentages actually go up with a Thrashers regulation win:

I'm not saying that I'm not paying attention to what Carolina is doing. Atlanta is ahead of us, games in hand or not, and any loss for them (unless it against Carolina, or even NY) is a good thing. The Sabres still have to win to make good on those games in hand, which they have been doing, so all is well.

I'm not making stuff up to try to be right, I'm was simply putting out another view of the standings. I heartily apologize if you were offended.
