Chicago-Edmonton

Chicago
Penner
Smid
Edmonton 1st 2011

Edmonton
Brouwer
Seabrook

Hawks desperately need Penner or someone like him. Seabrook would help Edmonton's D a lot and provide leadership. I think the difference between Seabrook and Smid is about the same as Penner and Brouwer.

***Added Edmonton 1st, apparently I had the value wrong. Why do we suck with so many good players then?

Seabrook >>>> Smid
Penner = Brouwer

Not a good deal for Hawks at all

If Penner=Brouwer, I don't see it. Not in style anyway. I like Brouwer a lot, but with Penner in front of the net, who knows how many goals he would get. I'm thinking a consistent 35. Not to mention, and I know I'll get criticized for it, but Penner and Smid are mensa in hockey IQ compared to the two guys we are giving up.

As an Oiler fan I would be dancing in the streets if Tambellini pulled off this travesty.

Seabrook is much, much better than Smid, but Penner is certainly better than Brouwer.

I think the Oilers need to add something, but logically, it could be a starting point here.

Well, the Hawks need Penner. His salary is 4.2M, so Seabrook has to go the other way. Smid has to come back so we still have a decent D. Where do we go from there?

So Edmonton gives up Larsson, Penner and Smid for a 3/4 liner and Seabrook? No thanks, I'll keep the 2 players and wait for Larsson for a couple of years. Not worth it, IMO.

There are very few packages that I would be willing to deal Edm's 1st rounder, and this isn't one of them.

Maybe you get the 2nd, but no way the first is on the table with Penner and Smid.

totally agree with you, and it also doesnt help that seabrook is a RFA at the end of the season.

I'd do Penner & Smid for Seabrook alone.

When was Brouwer a 3rd/4th liner?

No way should that first rounder be in there. You needed to add something, but not something so drastic. Maybe a 3rd?

Edmonton doesn't give up the 1st for Seabrook, never mind adding in Penner and Smid. The Oilers aren't ready to start trading away early draft picks. When they are a playoff team without the additions then they can start trading their picks, not when they are the worst team in the league.

I was considering the Oilers rebuilding more than the Hawks. With the young players they now have and the pick(s) from last year and this, I can see him 3/4. No disrespect to Brouwer intended.
