that thing is going to be beautiful. It almost looks too big for the forum haha.
How are they going to get it installed though with all of the events going on at the forum over summer? I imagine the republican convention would not appreciate a construction crew hanging around haha.

New scoreboard at the forum

Looks to me like it will probably be great for the folks sitting on the sidelines but for those of us who have seats in the endzones it looks like a big downgrade. Just a skinny fragment of the sidelines view. Hopefully our picture will be at least as wide and of comparable quality to what we get from the current scoreboard.......................

How can he donate that much money if the bank is days away from foreclosing on the Lightning?

HFBoards isn't enough? I'm offended.

Although am I the only one who put this together? Vinik makes it rain at Duke (in NC) to have professors who will work on complex societal challenges, and NC voters just approved an amendment to ban gay marriage and civil unions.

Vinik is too big to fail. He can also buy the bank. No bank to foreclose on anyone = no foreclosures.

With the scoreboard now being so freaking huge, I have no doubt that the "sliver" of scoreboard for us endzone folks will still be larger than the previous scoreboard. Worst case it is the same size with way better resolution and technology.

The screen may be smaller(not sure though) but wouldn't the screen facing your direction be closer? So wouldn't that make-up for, if not enhance, the change?

Vinik did one better: live performance just below the scoreboard. No need for 3-D glasses.

3D is so old already, I doubt Vinik even looks into it.

Holograms are the future. Sell out all the away games by having Hologram games, that is the next phase. Just like Japan had proposed for the World Cup 2022.

One step closer to downtown domination for Mr. V.

http://www2.tbo.com/news/breaking-ne...ide-ar-405463/

Quote:
Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik is emerging from a complex financial drama as the only qualified bidder for the Channelside Bay Plaza.

Several parties had put in bids to take over the mortgage and renovate the complex. At one point, there were at least three major groups in the competition: Vinik, a group led by St. Petersburg BayWalk shopping center owner Bill Edwards, and a group led by Centro Ybor property manager M&J Wilkow of Chicago.

Wilkow and Edwards ultimately combined their bids to better compete against Vinik.

Now officials involved in the deal confirmed that the Irish bank holding the plaza's mortgage chose Vinik's bid as the only one it will send to officials with the Tampa Port Authority, which owns the ground beneath the complex.
Can't wait to see what he's got planned.

Somebody better step up and tell him that his hockey team is going broke and about to be relocated after the lockout kills whatever small amount of hockey interest there is in Tampa Bay. He needs to be careful!

So is it too early to start calling him King of Channelside? Or should we wait until he can be annointed Emperor of Tampa Bay?

He's like Steinbrenner II, without all the nasty Yankee baggage. I love it.

Good morning everyone!

For today's "What will Jeff Vinik buy next" update, I give you...

Quote:
Vinik, the owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning professional hockey club, is now part of groups that have purchased at least two properties across the street from the arena where his team plays, and just down the street from the Channelside shopping complex that he hopes to purchase.

One parcel is a wedge-shaped plot that previously housed a bar called The Hut, and before that Newk's Cafe. The restaurant has remained dormant for months. Facilities staff for the Lightning were cleaning out the property this week and installing new safety railings around the outside deck.

Lightning are unveiling a 20th anniversary logo at their draft watch party.

They are also giving out merch with the new logo on it throughout the night.
