Should've claimed Smith. This team is going no where and it's a low risk reward.

Oil have Gerber and JDD, both UFA's at season end and both could be had for some sort of late draft pick.

Nabby said the exact same thing. He needed 3 or 4 weeks before he was ready to play.

Islanders had no good reason to not claim Emery. Your GM is a moron.

Emery being a timebomb is probably one good reason. Another being they don't need to end up with another guy saying no to them.

Tom Fenton is perfect for the Islanders. NHL experience, price will be right and perfect for their winning strategy.

Of course there was always Mike Smith.

No Deal

Deal for a goalie? Why? So we can lose future assets for a guy who'll play 20 games? That's like watching your house burn down and you risk your life to run back inside and save the microwave.

Just let this torturous season end and let the Isles get #1 overall already. We deserve another compensatory pick in the top 5 just for having Wang as owner, so we deserve all top 5 picks because of this season of absolute hell we've had to endure.

I'm telling you...If the Islanders EVER win the Cup while still in New York, the fans will be so insanely rabid that I expect that even the strip-mall guidos will flee the Island.

Basically....Root for the Islanders.

Weren't you guys crying about needing someone so your other goalie could go to the AHL and develop?

1) New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow is working on a trade for a goalie.

Although there is nothing imminent, sources say Snow is trying to make a "soft" deal which is to say he won't be including high draft picks or valued prospects to bring help to his crease.

The Islanders are also hopeful that Nathan Lawson will be able to return to the lineup this weekend, perhaps as early as Friday vs. Pittsburgh.

Lawson suffered a knee injury last month and won't make the trip to Montreal for tomorrow's game. Instead, he'll stay back in New York to do some additional work with Isles goaltending coach Mike Dunham.

Mikko Koskinen is expected to get the start against the Habs after making his NHL debut on Tuesday night in emergency relief following Kevin Poulin's freak knee injury in the pregame warm up.

Could throw an offersheet at Toskala, but he would have to clear waivers like Nabokov.

What about Wade Dubielewicz

this is all on detroit....... and on Nabokov thinking he deserved special treatment..... as he said "I knew the Rules"

he just didnt think they should apply to him
and now we know why no free agents will be signing in the Isle for a long long time.

Mark Streit, Mark Eaton, PA Parenteau, and Milan Jurcina and Matt Moulson say hello

The only reason big name free agents dont is that we are losing more than we win, but im fine with that while we're rebuilding

and I could care less how Nabokov feels, if he wanted to be free to slgn anywhere, all he had to do was wait till july.

as he said he knew the rules

he is no more entitled to his own set of rules than anyone else

nothing you've said changes any of that, give me one good reason why he should feel entitled to special treatment? all he had to do is wait, and he could sign wherever he wanted

the rest of us live with rules why cant he? we dont just take whatever we want and not expect consequences

Mark Streit was signed before the Nabokov fiasco???? The other players listed will be the only type of free agents you can sign thanks to this situation. Playing hardball with Nobakov isn't going to look good in the eyes of some agents.

To keep this on topic, Chicago offers a 5th round pick and the rights to Cristobal Huet!

they could care less.....

so Nabokov thought he was better than every free agent out there.

they're thinking why did I have to wait to be a free agent until my contract was up, and follow rules. Who is he to think he's better than me and not have to do the same

you think a guy like Parise isnt pissed that he's injured heading into his RFA opportunity when it costs him money?

he's thinking who the hell does Nabokov think he is?

How about

To Islanders
G Hannu Toivonen
D Nick Boynton

To Hawks
D Radek Martinek

Isles get a goalie to finish out year for them who is a reclamation project

Hawks improve our #5 d spot

Boynton is in deal just for cap/roster purposes

Hawks can then just sign someone to finish year as Rockford's #2

I bet it doesn't say that she can be transferred wherever she wants without her permission. Think of it this way, if your wife's contract was given to a competitor in Yemen, and she didn't report, and she had no release clause, then yes, she would be totally sued.

i always liked sanford and thought he was very under rated. depending on the extent of the injuries to koskinen and lawson i wouldnt mind picking him up. it also depends on montreals asking price of course. i dont want garth going absolutely crazy eight bonkers trying to get him.

This. Out of curiosity, what does the list of former NHL goalies playing in the AHL look like?

Didn't read the entire thread, but if Anaheim's going to have Emery soon-ish, inquire about McElhinney.

Emery is down in the AHL for conditioning, but at least McBackup has NHL experience... just wait a little bit?
