What would Montreal want for Curtis Sanford?

Also: I can't believe our season has fallen to the point where I am hoping to see Curtis Sanford (or Martin Gerber) lace 'em up for the Isles.

or they could go the other way and roll the dice on J.D-Deslaurier if they think he has any real NHL upside. who knows what EDM would expect in return for him though.

other guys to look at who could be had on the cheap...

-maybe McElhhiney if Emery makes it back to the NHL this year.
-Lalime out of Buffalo.
-Clemmensen out of Florida, if Vokoun doesn't end up moved.
-maybe Sabourin if he can still fill a uniform on an NHL team?

at least, those are guys i'd think could be had for pucks, autographed trading cards, used jock straps, etc. as they aren't really integral to any sort of team success and are easily replaced.

kind of a craptastic list of goaltenders, but hey...that's sort of the point right? don't really see the Isles looking for anyone good. just a filler guy to bear the brunt of the losing and shellings to come this season for the Islanders. i think any of those could fill that role, while earning a minimal salary and not doing any damage to the tanking effort.

Boynton is in deal just for cap/roster purposes

Hawks can then just sign someone to finish year as Rockford's #2

martinek is worth a hell of alot more, and boynton is trash as youve said repeatedly buddy

Yeah but Toivonen is solid value wise for Martinek, but not what we need.

Toivonen is ok but where does he fit next year?

remember we still have Nilsson to bring over who Snow is high on
we still only have 4 long term spots

Rick D
Poulin
Koskinen
Nilsson

Lalime for a weekend in the Hamptons. It doesn't even have to be in the summer.

Thats exactly what Snow would want, a Veteran filler low cost option

i can do that too

we just want filler our long term goalie spots are taken, we are not playoff bound and we have no reason to want to spend much

We'd take leighton and give you contract relief, but nothing else

Kabanov's value over Leighton in that proposal is nothing compared to our best forward over Schremp

But that was just a joke, realistically what would you trade for Leighton. He'd be perfect for NYI.

At this point, anyone with functional legs would be perfect for the Isles right now. We're flexible on the arms.

You should retitle this deal as "bust for filler," and I make that deal just so I don't have to hear Isles fans talk about Kabanov like he's the next Bure.

A 2nd or 3rd pick or a decent prospect (Maybe Ullstrom or Rakhshani)

I know it seems crazy but Habs are not going to give away Sanford. His value to the Habs organization is way more higher than his NHL market value.

If we trade Sanford, we're in big troubles because our only other goaltender under contract is Robert Mayer (who is currently one of the worst goaltenders in the AHL). If Price or Auld is injured, we have no one to call up. Also, trading Sanford would just ruin Hamilton's playoff run (The Dogs have a good chance to go far in the playoffs with Sanford).

So Sanford isn't available unless you are willing to overpay.

Kim St-Pierre is the short term answer for 2 reasons

1. The Islanders would lose every game and lock up a top 2 draft pick.
2. A female goalie would sell tickets and people might actually come out to watch the pitiful Islanders.

I like the idea of someone like Smith going to the Islanders to help out. They need the goalie and Smith probably wants a chance to make a decent comeback.

It seems like a decent match of two parties that need some small victories to get themselves back on track.

Katie Strang (NYI beat writer) reports that the Isles have no interest in Smith. Leighton could be a possibility.
