Some severe talent would have to come back if Sather moves Gaborik

Ottawa's 1st + is in play if this is true, I'm positive. Perfect for Spezza's wing.

The fact that the Rangers are actually listening to offers for, arguably, their most talented player, while the team is fighting to maintain their playoff position comes across as a bit desperate.

I highly doubt Sather would deal Gaborik to a division rival. So not Pittsburgh.

Ottawa is sort of retooling.

Los Angeles seems like the right destination to me.

Solid offer.

I would consider based on the position of the Sabres at the TDL.

People seem to be under some misunderstanding here...Sather is under no obligation to move Gaborik...he's listening to offers...meaning he wants to be overwhelmed. Despite what Dreger inaccurately stated, the Rangers do not HAVE to dump Gaborik to create cap space...buying out Drury creates ample space to sign Richards in the off-season if that opportunity arises. Again, Sather is willing to listen to offers...that means other GMs coming to him and responding in kind.

I'd like to think that Ottawa could beat that, but...hey, who knows.

If we trade away Gaborik and get Richards, we will be lacking a scoring winger. Same **** all over again

You do realize that every GM listens to offers for every player all the time? They aren't doing their job if they're not.

I don't entirely agree. First, Richards makes the players around him better to a bigger extent than Gaborik does. Also, the youth is further along now than when Gomez was here (not to mention Richards is a far better player than Gomez).

I'd consider Ott 1st + Michalek if the Sens finish with a top-5 pick. Maybe add a 2nd from the Rangers side.

I think gaborik is amazing. but has anyone taken a look at his career stats?
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=51238

hes more than a ppg usually major problem is he had a few seasons where he even came close to playing the full season. not to mention hes going to be 29 next season so not getting younger. and his cap hit is high for a lot of teams that could use him. if hes as godly as the rangers fans are making him out to be then why trade him? why not keep him. asking for all of LAs future for him??? hes almost like a marian hossa deal where you bring him in when you think you have a really good shot at the cup and you need 1 more special guy. because next year he could play less than 60 games and be ir the rest.

I think the problem is that the Rags will be looking for forward prospects, because they're loaded with young defenseman. If I recall correctly, Ottawa does have one very good forward prospect, but that's it. I'm probably wrong, though.

If Gaborik weren't so brittle.. yes I would. He's a heck of a talent but his constant injuries are a real scare. That said however, if Sather indeed decides to trade Gaborik, I can see him getting back a combo of 1st(s), top prospect & roster player.

Fantasy GM time:

To TOR:
Drury
Gaborik

To NYR:
Schenn
Komisarek

Instead of Seguin, how about Toronto's #1 and Colborne, and we can fill in the pieces around them?

The oft injured player that in on pace to play in 83% of his teams games this year that while having an "off" year is still producing points at a clip of 4 points for every 5 games played.

I could imagine what kind of numbers Gaborik could put up with a legit #1 center like Kopitar.

There's no point in considering just Schenn for Gaborik as there is no guarantee that he develops into a player that is comparable to what Gabby is today.

The potential is there sure, but Gabby is already a proven 40 goal scoring point a game player.

anything less than Schenn, a 1st and another prospect is a non-starter.

Which is why I still say Schenn + Simmonds. That's not even including the 1st.

It never hurts to consider all options.
However, I think 2 different ways to go worth parting w/Gabby:

1) To Pens:
Lunqvist, Gaborik, Boyle, Girardi, + 1 first
to NYR
J. Staal, Letang, + Malkin as is + 2 Pen seconds.

A roll of the dice for both teams,
for Pitt,
that Crosby will return + Gaborik be a phenomenal match w/him ...
for NYR,
that Malkin will return to form, eventually (consolation, if not, is recovery of cap space).

Pit upgrades to Hank, + can then move MAF for additional compensation, so expect cap to work w/o too much additional tinkering.

2. Other move would be to try + step up for Doughty:
Gabby, Girardi + X to LAK
for
Doughty to NYR

Thoughts....

I'm sure GM's get a fair bit of proposals come their way from other teams. But GM's don't just advertise to the league that they want to hear offers for their players all the time. This is Sather actively soliciting proposals from other teams because he has a genuine interest in moving Gaborik.

Deal. We'd just need to send back some salary for cap reasons. Gaborik (when healthy) is as lethal a scorer as there is in the NHL. I'd do TOR1st & Colborne.
