you can offer me Kessel for free and I may not accept.

He seems like a ***** as a person and i wouldn't want him anywhere near the youngsters coming up in the Rangers system.

Judging by Sather's trade history, if some GM actually ends up getting Gaborik he will have been fleeced terribly.

Soliciting offers would constitute shopping him.

I doubt Sather is shopping him, but if a GM was calling about someone else and as a measure of just feeling out the landscape of things mentioned Gaborik, I do believe that Sather wouldn't end the conversation.

I doubt very much that Sather is calling GM's saying Gaborik is available, get your offers in as that to me soliciting.

That's obviously the idea and why we might be possibly excited by this speculation.

I think that pick would have to be a protected top-5 where if it wasn't the Rangers get Boston's 2nd '11 or something along those lines.

Also, not overly high on Colborne. 26 points in 51 games. I liked what I saw of him at Denver, especially last year but I havent been able to watch him in Providence this season. What seems to be the problem?

That's the same thing as shopping. Which Dreger specifically said Sather is not doing.

What he is reporting is that teams are interested in fielding offers to Sather, who is willing to listen.

If I'm Brian Burke, I'm on the phone right now trying to do whatever I can to get Gaborik.

Kaberle, Kadri, Versteeg and a 2012 first round pick for Gaborik?

hes more than a ppg usually major problem is he had a few seasons where he even came close to playing the full season. not to mention hes going to be 29 next season so not getting younger. and his cap hit is high for a lot of teams that could use him. if hes as godly as the rangers fans are making him out to be then why trade him? why not keep him. asking for all of LAs future for him??? hes almost like a marian hossa deal where you bring him in when you think you have a really good shot at the cup and you need 1 more special guy. because next year he could play less than 60 games and be ir the rest.
You do it to see what value he holds around the league...maybe a GM is willing to overpay...if not, nothing is lost. This is not a Kovalchuk situation where he was headed to free agency, nor is it a situation where the Rangers have to move his salary.

The truth, the success of the Rangers this year has had more to do with the development of their young core, than a reliance on Gaborik to bear the burden of their offense. So, in some manner, Gaborik hasn't been as essential to winning. The Rangers have a bunch of good, young players on the team, with more coming. However, they lack a legitimate #1 center prospect, (maybe Stepan becomes one, but, ideally, he's a very good 2nd line center), and a top-pairing RH D-man complement to Marc Staal, (Girardi is solid, but, he has his flaws, and again, quality 2nd pairing D-man). Knowing those flaws in this squad, understanding that this has been a transition year, why wouldn't Sather see if he couldn't maximize the value of an asset?

I could live with a straight up; don't think Pens would. But enough pieces can be added to make risk, return, etc. balanced enough...

Seems like he's just getting adjusted to pro game (schedule/ physical demands). You can see streaks of dominate play in his game, he's just got to learn to put it together more consistanly. Once (if) he does I think he'll become a great player. I think he'll make the jump to Boston next season.

Not yet. Kessel is younger, cheaper, and doesn't have a history of injury problems.

However, I think 2 different ways to go worth parting w/Gabby:

1) To Pens:
Lunqvist, Gaborik, Boyle, Girardi, + 1 first
to NYR
J. Staal, Letang, + Malkin as is + 2 Pen seconds.

A roll of the dice for both teams,
for Pitt,
that Crosby will return + Gaborik be a phenomenal match w/him ...
for NYR,
that Malkin will return to form, eventually (consolation, if not, is recovery of cap space).

Pit upgrades to Hank, + can then move MAF for additional compensation, so expect cap to work w/o too much additional tinkering.

2. Other move would be to try + step up for Doughty:
Gabby, Girardi + X to LAK
for
Doughty to NYR

Thoughts....
Do you even consider the salary cap or team needs before you make these proposals, or do you just throw the names in a hat and see what you get?

Why would pittsburgh want Lundqvist and Fleury as their goalies? And who replaces Lundqvist? Biron? The rest of that isn't enough to get J.Staal, Letang, Malkin and 2 seconds. Not even close.

And LA isn't trading Doughty. No point in even asking.

Tell me you're serious about saying that Kessel is the better option. Please.

You actually waded through that? My eyes hurt once I saw Henke in a deal WITH Gaborik. You are a brave man, GAG!

Why is Kessel in this discussion?

I wouldn't want that lazy **** anywhere near the Rangers.

Sather won't trade Gaborik unless he absolutely fleeces the other GM.

Not sarcasm then!

I will give you a honest reply. Kessel probably has some good value still, but is not a impact player. Kessel is a extremely good complementary player, which is why he has struggled so much in Toronto. He has no one else close to his talent level and he is not the type of player who leads a team with his talent.
He needs someone to feed him the puck. He is not the type of player that elevates the players around him making them better.

Gaborik has a history of being a leader offensively. He has done it in Minnesota and NY.

Value wise a deal could be built around Kessel for Gaborik, but the leafs would have to add. Injuries aside, Gaborik is a franchise player and Kessel is not.

I know the Kessel deal did not turn out all that well for Toronto but the price I would think would be more for Gaborik.

2 1st's + 2nd

Gaborik is the better player, both had some injury concerns.

This is the Gomez situation all over again.

Gaborik isn't impressing. Give up on him and get a new shiny toy on July 1st. (Richards)
