I for one don't think 3 games is that out of line. It's all the other suspensions that tend to be way too short.

Roenick on Cooke to puckdaddy.....

Quote:
"Does it surprise you?" Roenick said on XM Radio, according to Yahoo's Puck Daddy. Does it surprise you that Matt Cooke would be so ... chicken [expletive] and do that?"

"That situation last night did not happen instinctively. It did not happen quickly. He had three or four seconds to make up his mind and drive those numbers into the glass," Roenick explained. "That's a situation where you take Matt Cooke, because of his history, into the office and you give him 20 games flat. Twenty games, gone, thanks for coming."

"Matt Cooke, No. 1, doesn't have respect for anyone," Roenick said. "He's one of the least favorite guys in the league by the players for a reason. Hitting [Marc] Savard, having that all situation ... But this situation last night is exactly what gives players bad names, gives guys bad names. It's why we have injuries. It's why someone's going to get either paralyzed or killed on the ice one of these days. Because of idiot, idiot, idiot people and plays like Matt Cooke did [Tuesday] night."

Roenick also said Volchenkov's elbow was blatant.

Quote:
"And [Anton] Volchenkov was the same thing, throwing that elbow out. A blatant, blatant elbow. It wasn't even a question whether his elbow came out and tagged the kid. These little things are going to come back and haunt people. I hope the NHL throws heavy, heavy fines at these guys."

No **** Jeremy, thanks captain obvious

Volchenkov's elbow was clearly obvious, everybody and his mother knows that, but done on purpose? Absolutely not, 100% no......that's not Volchenkov's game, Volchenkov's a physical player and as so, he was going to hit the Canes player before the guy lowered himself, unfortunately Volchenkov wasn't able to side step him and it wound up being an elbow instead of a regular hit

I agree with the suspension, but not the number of games

Paille get’s 4 games, Volchenkov get’s 3. It’s absolutely ridiculous. The inconsistency here is inarguable. Colin Campbell is a joke, and that he even still has a job after his comments about Savard is a black eye on the NHL.
Mike Murphy made Paille's decision as Campbell can't. It can be argued that there is a difference of interpretation here. Either way, fair or not, it's been relatively consistent as of late.

This is just so frustrating. I'm tired of how incredibly inconsistent they are with these suspensions. Only one more game for a guy who has a huge list of infractions, who was obviously trying to injure a guy, whose hit could have resulted in a significantly worse injury than what Volch did; it's crazy. If Volchenkovs hit warrants 3, Cookes warrants 6,7 or 8 or more.

Now I'm sitting here listening to Rob Rossi telling me Cookes hit is in a "gray area". WTF?!? If that is a gray area, what is a blatant hit? This is the confusing message the league is sending with their inconsistent punishments.

More Daneyko on PD Radio, on Matt Cooke: Suggests that the NHL offer 2 weeks of "open season" on Cooke. No fines, no suspensions.

Open season? That will never happen. But I would love to see them look the other way when someone finally decides to clean him up. Maybe Evander Kane can do it again.

piss off Campbell. You are a disgrace. I suppose if a guy trips and falls face first into a skate you'll suspend the guy for kicking him in the head too?

I hope the entire team starts blocking shots like Volchie did and skate away with 6 points the next 3 games so as to tell Bettman to SUCK IT.

I can only hope that it's indication of the league scaling up the suspension length all-around, because this was far from a terrible headshot. The Boyle non-suspension is ridiculous though, considering it was a true blindside, a knee-on-knee, and a reaching elbow all-in-one against a fairly stationary (easier to avoid) target. If Volchenkov is 3, Boyle should be 4-5 at least.

Cooke's hit was disgusting but doesn't really apply here. It should have been 5-6 based on how much time he had to avoid the hit as well as his past history.

Dan-O with similar idea as I had a couple days ago. Good, but unfortunately, this will never ever happen.

This topic is hilarious. Yes Bettman loves the Penguins that's why the guy who hit an accidental head shot on Crosby got how many games in the biggest regular season game of the year? None. Volchenkov had his elbow out. There are no excuses for it.

The Canes side cameraview (them attackin to our end) shows that Volchie did take him out with his elbow. Ill live with 3 games, tho 2 or even 1 should've been given if compared to Cooke. If Volchie got 3, Cooke ought to get x3.
