Glencross ?

Any interest on Flames side ?

Flames - Zherdev
Flyers - Glencross

TSN reports FLames looking for offense, and I think Glencross would be great with Richards.

No interest at all from me on that deal. I'd rather have Glencross.

From Calgary's perspective, we'd be looking more at add-ons for Giroux, Carter or Nodl to build futures on.

Flames management could not care less about this trade proposal - not the worst, just not what they'd be looking for.

I wouldn't have interest in Zherdev at this point. He is skilled and has potential. Fairly even value, but we need Glencross if we're serious about making the playoffs. He's our best PK guy and anchors the third line. I don't think Zherdev and Sutter would mesh very well either. I'd love Giroux.... haha.

okay just for a second assume the Flames are looking for offense... now think REALLY hard about this... who would the Flames prefer...

Player A: 14 Goals, 22 Points, physical, regular penalty killer and solid defensively making 1.2 million

or

Player B: 15 Goals, 19 Points, with no intangibles to speak of making 2.0 million

boy that seems like a tough choice

If we really want Zherdev we can probably just wait for FA.

Though with Tanguay out now, its more tempting.

No, not while playoffs are a possibility...

If they're out at the deadline, we still don't want Zherdev. Probably a 2/3 draft pick.

Bourque will replace Tanguay. He's gonna have to since he has been borderline useless the entire winning streak.

As for the trade, Glencross is too valuable. I'd rather risk losing him to free agency to be honest.

Haha you are going to have to do better than that...

It would take a MASSIVE overpayment to get Glenny from Calgary

I don't think it would take MASSIVE overpayement like you said, its just I do not see him being moved at this time.

I should have been a little more specific. I say massive overpayment in anticipation that we are going to continue playing the way we are and in a good position come deadline day. In that case it really would take a massive overpayment. He is every playoff teams dream (especially cap cautious teams) and IMO it would be a huge mistake to trade him for anything but a decently big overpayment.

But if *knock on wood* the flames dont continue and look to be out of it in 3 weeks then I could understand trading him for something like a 2nd and a 4th. Or a good prospect.

Really? Why?

I look at Calgary and hope that they don't turn into buyers and mortgage more of the future on some misguided hope that they might actually do major damage in the playoffs this year. If there is a deal out there that gives Calgary some good young players or picks for a player of the Glencross ilk, then I think Calgary would be doing a big disservice to it's fanbase by not very seriously considering it.

Read my explanation above your post. But also for the record I dont want the Flames to be "Buyers" either.

Zherdev isn't the player of the future. The guy is a prima donna with absolutely no intangibles who, even after he lead the team in scoring, was not wanted back by the Rangers.

For sure. The last thing the Flames need is Zherdev.......but trading Glencross for a young upstart prospect or a decent pick is good business at this stage.

I would move someone like Pelech for Zherdev. Doubt Philly would do that though.

Yeah they wouldn't, PHI has no need for a guy like him. But I certainly would make that move too.

That is the type of move the Flames should be trying to make. The only prospect depth we have is in our defence, if can aquire a top 9 or borderline top 6 forward for a guy like Pelech then we should make that deal.

True...ideally I'd like to ship out Staios, but the return would be nil.

No, the return would be cap space.

How many general managers are going to be lining up to take Staios off of our hands for a draft pick? Very few, if any. I'm gonna get flack for this, but we are better off trading Sarich. His cap relief is greater than Staios, and his return would be much better. Staios and Pardy are capable of filling in for Sarich for the remainder of the year. Also Erixon and Brodie can take his spot full time next time year. Trade Sarich back to Tampa for a 2nd round pick and mid level prospect.

Don't think you understand, I did not mention a single thing about a pick, I am fine if the return is nothing at this point.
