Hamrlik's next contract

La Presse (a Montreal francophone newspaper) stated that Hamrlik would rather end his career in Montreal. And we all know that he isn't worth $5.5M anymore.

How much would he be worth if he re-signed (if only for one season) as a Hab?

I don't follow the Habs regularly but Hamrlik seems like he is still consistent at a two way game; not worth 5.5 mill, 2.5 mill??

I'd say his value is $2.5M but he'll get $3.5M for a one year

Gorges could fetch $3.5M but not Hammer.

Someone in today's Habs/Leafs GDT said 6m over two years, and that sounds about right to me.

He's up in years, but eats up minutes, is a good offensive defenceman, isn't a defensive liability, and is a great veteran presence for our slew of younger guys.

Completely dependent on the length he wants. He's 36, so if he wants to finish his career in Montreal and is seeking (let's say) a four year deal then I'd say 2.5/year is the max I'd go. 3-3.5 for lesser term.

Money is not an issue, but I wouldn't go past two years in length. He can have 3.5-4.0 but not for more than a year or two.

At his age, I would give him a reasonable contract around 3 or 3.5 a season and nothing more than 2 years

I would sign Markov, Wiz and Gorges first..

Take Hamrlik's 5.5 and Markov's 5.75 and send an offer sheet to Stamkos for 11 million a season. Why wouldn't he take it? Screw Stevie Y a little. OR send one to Byfuglien, Bogo, Andrew Ladd or Yandle.

D will look like

PK - Key Aquisition
Gorges - Wiz (4.5-5)
Weber - Spacek

Between 5-6 million over two years is acceptable. Preferably I would like to move Spacek but the likelihood is nil. In any event, Markov, Gorges and Wisniewski all have top priority. In addition, if we acquire someone at the deadline. They may have priority over Hamrlik.

Thats too low.

He should be able to get 5-6 million over 2 seasons.

I'm personally not dying to see him re-signed, i'd prefer to look at the other options out there, but we could certainly do alot worse than bringing back Hamr for another 2 seasons.

This is about right IMO. 2M is pushing it. He might get it. But no way he's getting 2.5M. He used to be a lot of fun to watch when he played for Edmonton and Tampa, but when he fell out of his prime, he fell out quickly.

I consider him a #5 d-man most of the time.

How much do you watch him play?

Statistically he is not what he used to be, but he still puts up about 30 points a season and is quite good in his own end. The only reason why i hesitate to bring him back is because i think the Habs need to add more sandpaper on the back end.

I'd keep Hamrlik over Spacek in a heartbeat if i could.

Yeah, Spacek really seemed to bomb the minute he came to Montreal. Don't know what was up with that. But I might get to watch Hamerlik play 5-7 times this year. He doesn't stand out. He's lost a step or two when it comes to speed.

He's still our best defensive D, a big minute eater and can make a good outlet pass. No way he's getting less than 3.0M next year.

Well I'll be overjoyed if he signs for 3 mill. Less money for your team to spend on players I might want on my team.

I think he would easily be worth between 2.5 and 3 million. To put it in perspective:

His stats put him 3rd in ice-time among Edmonton Oiler players and 2nd in points among Oiler d-men. Then again the Oilers are bottom of the barrel, but still he would be worth up to 3 million.
