Schremp hasn't really done anything with the NYI to shed that label, other than be lazy during ice time on a terrible team.

Grabner's case is a great example of why no one should be labeled a "bust" at 23.

There are a lot of pretty good goaltenders in the world, and 60 spots that everyone wants, a fraction of which come available every season. If you're not amazingly, consistantly good, you won't make it. His and a lot of young goalie's problem. But he is by no means a 'bum' and saying conclusively that he has peaked is a bit short-sighted.

snow's solution to his goalie problem is an AHL backup?

surely there had to be something better available.

Ah yes the typical ripping on Leafs fans when Toronto has absolutely nothing to do with this thread. Get a life.

Yes, because a bust and a player getting a career ending injury are the same thing.

Finances had something to do with it. There's roughly a third of the season remaining and the Islanders aren't exactly contending for a playoff spot. DiPietro, in theory, will be back in a month or so. They just needed to get somebody to be an NHL backup at a minimal contract. Most teams are still in the playoff hunt and probably aren't looking to move their current backups for a 6th/7th rounder. Most teams don't have a #3/4 that they'd want to move for a pick that late.

Leighton and Smith cleared waivers because of their contracts. The thought was more likely that Montoya for 250K (prorated from 750K) for the rest of the season was better than say Smith for 800K.

I'd explain but let's just say the Islanders are every bit the joke you all think they are.

Montoya played very well in his first 5 NHL games with the coyotes and he impressed me alot as a fan of the yotes but he never got an opporntunity past that point, also he seems to play better as an NHL goalie rather than in the AHL. IF given a chance ,I think he will turn a few heads.

I remember that one guy on the rangers board who was all over this kid and deemed him the future of the franchise who will be much better than Lundqvist one day. The poster was a swede nonetheless, needless to say, I havent heard from that dude in forever.. I dont remember if he left the boards when Montoya got traded.

Boy, I remember those days when he wanted Lundqvist traded and compared the situation the Richter/Vanbiesbrouck.

And yes, mentioning Blackburns name with Montoya in the same sentence hurts... not the same thing.. injuries killed a very promising career.
