I remember all of the Montoya hype from way back when. What the hell happened to the guy?

At least Blackburn was actually good... It's a shame that his career ended due to injuries, cuz it was looking like it was gonna be a good one.

Not a big deal nor is the trade. Just another clown joining our circus on LI.
LOL! I remember when Montoya was regarded to be the Rangers goalie of the future and was considered "untouchable" Now this guy is on his third team and hasn't gotten much NHL time and can't crack an NHL roster. I am sure he is going to get a chance with the Islanders but it ain't gonna be pretty.

Montoya was great at Michigan...at times, looked like a more clutch version of Marty Turco, at least as good as Steve Shields...Montoya has just never ever figured out something about the NHL, not sure what it is.

Me, I'm just trying to figure out how Phoenix traded the Rangers property with Montoya. It's a neat trick.

Phoenix acquired Montoya at the deadline a couple years ago from the Rangers for Fredrik Sjostrom.

Montoya at the NHL level has put up good stats. His stats at the AHL level are absolutely brutal. Perhaps he's a guy that plays better on the bigger stage?

OK, let me add this: Me, I'm just trying to figure out how Phoenix traded the Rangers property with Montoya.

Clearly, you were fooled by Phoenix trickery. It's just what they and the Rangers wanted you to think.

(Perhaps so. I'd love for that to be the case. I really liked Montoya at Michigan.)

Nerve in the shoulder of the catching arm were injured and he couldn't left his glove normally. Tried two blockers but he retired

Let's see how Montoya does for the Isles. No risk for NYI here when a 6th was traded

What a break for Montoya, hopefully he shows why he was picked top ten 6 years ago. The Isles were desperate for a goalie, a 6th is nothing, so not a bad trade.

Not to mention Bryzgalov will be in Phoenix for a while, Montoya was never going to change that, LaBarbera has been playing well, Climie hasn't been bad, might as well take the 6th rounder and help Al's career.

WOW, for a second there I though i had stumbled upon an amateur night comedian website with all these hilarious comments. Then it sunk in, it was just HF Boards. Don't quit your day jobs boys.

The Islanders are playing there what... 5th or 6th string goalie and some guys ask why Snow did what he did. Only on HF.

Any GM who wastes a top 10 pick on a goalie is an idiot.

You know its still not too late for Al Montoya to turn his career around..

Reading this thread you would think he was a 34 year old goalie. The guy is only 25. A goalies development is weird. Just look at Tim Thomas. A great example.

around here, if youre not hall of fame bound by your 21st birthday, youre a bust.

all im expecting of montoya is, for him to keep the islanders in the games, at least give them a chance to win. if he can steal two or three games along the way, thats just a bonus.

To be fair, to most of the 12-year-olds that post here, 21 *IS* old.

From someone who doesn't follow the Islanders except to watch them beat up on Penguins: has he played yet, or is he scheduled to play?

He played the second half against the Sabres and got the win. He was very good at getting in front of the puck, he was just awful at holding on to it. He gave away mutliple rebounds that led to goals. Maybe just nerves for his first game, but that will kill him in the long run if he can't control the rebounds.

He played yesterday, he didn't start but came in for Mikko after he got lit up. He made 12 saves off of 14 shots. On the radio, it didn't seem like he was too comfortable. I wasn't able to catch the game though on TV.

looked nervous. Scrambling a bit, going down early, trouble hanging on to the puck, that kind of stuff.

Need to see him in a few more games to tell if it was just first game issues or a real indicator of his ability.
