Honestly, Pegula is walking into a tough situation. Do you sell off your second-best defenseman this year (Monty) and/or your only natural top-9 center (Connolly) in the middle of a surge towards the playoffs? If not, what of any value are going to give up to acquire a player who will likely not be good enough to help this particular team make a deep run? Rock and a hard place. Which is why I think they'll do some minor selling (Butler) and some minor buying (someone like Reasoner).

After seeing what has happened in recent years, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Pegula's first order of business is trying to get Monty signed before the deadline.

The organisation as a whole has been in this spot 3 of the last 4 years. On the outside looking in with expiring contracts that could return assets as rentals. It's a tough place to be in as a GM. It's the result of icing a team that has mediocrity written all over it.

2 of Stoll, McDonald, Turris, Bailey, Weiss, Riberio, Umberger, Oshie, Brassard, Brule, Jeffery, Arnott, Higgins would be nice

David Booth, Curtis Glencross I might call about and inquire

Eric Brewer, Ian White, Brent Seabrook could be inquired about.
