Roll Call: Rod the Bod's Retirement

So, who all is going? I am planning on leaving the area around 9 to get there in time to do some tailgating and such.

Also, the game time is 8pm, are they doing the ceremony at 7? 7:30? or at 8? Although I doubt the last one.

I am staying at the Courtyard by Marriot, anyone know where the team is staying?

As previously announced, the RBC Center doors will open at 6 p.m. on Friday night, and all fans in attendance will receive a replica mini No. 17 banner as they enter. Once inside the arena, fans can enjoy one of the defining moments of Brind’Amour’s career, as a replay of the third period of Game 7 of the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals is shown on the video board. At 6:30 p.m., Hurricanes television analyst Tripp Tracy will host a special roundtable discussion of Brind’Amour’s career with three of his former teammates – Bret Hedican, Keith Jones and Chris Therien. The ceremony to raise Brind’Amour’s No. 17 to the RBC Center rafters will begin promptly at 7 p.m., and fans are strongly encouraged to be in their seats by that time.

I can't think of too many players like him, he's the type of player i'd like to see more of. Great guy.

I am really pumped to go, it also seems like some of the beat writers are mentioning the Marriott, so maybe the team is staying there as well. That'd be cool, I've enjoyed excursions with the guys before, and they are a lot of fun.

Wish I was there, my friend here in WV is heading out there to the game (his g/f teaches in Raleigh). Wonder what Snider and co. will get him as a gift?

I'll be there, since I live in Raleigh, haha. I still think it's a real classy move by the Hurricane organization to retire his number when the flyers are in town.

Is anyone planning on going out after the game tomorrow? I live downtown so if anyone needs some suggestions for where to go here I can give some suggestions.

All flyers wearing #17 in warm ups according to Carchidi.

I am definitely down to hit downtown Raleigh if there is anywhere to go.

Also, if they are doing the #17 warm-up idea, that's pretty cool. I would definitely want to check out that Meigray auction when it rolls around.

My only disappointment is I have not been able to find a RBK 6100 authentic 'Canes jersey to get done up with 06 SCF patch and Brind'Amour. He is pretty much the man.

He was one of those Flyers who you were glad he won a cup elsewhere.

FYI, went to Taqueria El Toro in Raleigh, by far some of the best Mexican food I've ever had.

So looks like the girlfriend and I will be getting a 3PMish Lunch/Dinner (Linner?). Any good recommendations that may be fairly close to the arena. I think our goal today is to walk around, take in the nice weather that we haven't seen in NJ for a while, and see what places we can find until dinner/the game.

Unfortunately, there isn't a ton around the arena itself. If you're looking to go downtown there are some decent places to eat, depending on how much you want to spend. If you're up for some NC BBQ then there is a place called the pit which I highly recommend. Its a little more expensive (at least by Raleigh standards), but their lunch menu is very reasonable, if they are still serving lunch at 3.

There is a sports bar down on glenwood south called Hi-5, where everything on the menu is $5.00. It's pretty good bar food and they have a great beer selection. Don't be deceived though, if you're really hungry, most things don't come with a side. I would recommend the nachos from the app menu, lot of food for $5.00.

EDIT: I should also mentioned that the RBC Center is supposed to have excellent BBQ as well. I haven't ever tried it, but I hear a lot of great things. Just something to keep in mind.

A fitting tribute to a player who wore his heart on his sleeve and touched fans in more than one NHL city.

http://nhlhotstove.com/brindamour-wi...s-fans-hearts/

Dave Strehle shares his thoughts and feelings on Brind'Amour as the Carolina Hurricanes retired his #17 and raised his jersey to the rafters at the RBC Center this past friday.

Definetly worth a read, thanks
