I'd be happy with that. Smid brings pretty much everything Hammer does minus the cup experience - and could be a solid #4 for us next year for savings on Hammer - while adding a solid #6 in Vandermeer, who at one point was my favorite Blackhawk.

Maybe one our kids gets a shot. Connelly deserves a cup of coffee.

But most importantly

By NHL rules we can not trade Hammer until July

I really liked Hammer last year but he's very overpaid. He seems to be playing Sopel's role this year. He hasn't moved the puck out of the zone lately and seems scared to take a shot on goal. He has a good/great shot from the point but he just doesn't shoot as much as he should. In addition, he seemed to stop checking since the Buffalo incident earlier in the year.

Just so we know the price range now that Boynton is gone:

If in fact Leddy is up for the rest of the season, the #blackhawks space should drop down to just above the $2-million mark.

I am glad I'm not the only that has noticed this. Just because he can block shots does not mean he is worth 3.5 mil. He used to hit HARD, hence why he got the suspension, but I watch him going after the puck where he could just nail someone into the boards and completely turns away. Drives me nuts.

Interesting Bowman said he's still looking for a center; #Blackhawks have scouted Colorado's O'Reilly and McClement, according to source.
Getting Ryan O'Reilly would be epic.

He would instantly be one of my favorite Hawks. I can't imagine what it would cost us though.
