Came in just in time to see the third period...

Fleury played really well. Steigerwald said it best when he said that Staal would not be denied. Honestly, he just kept getting chances. Thankfully he buried the last opportunity.

A very very very very (x100000) big + to Z.M.

Without his defensive abilities we would have lost 3 1 most likely if not more.

+ to the AHL'ers for coming up and playing big.

+ to Fleury for a great performance

+ to Staalsy for notching another goal (a big one)

+Staal. Somebody want to tell me that kid won’t be a 30+30 player making runs at the Selke for many years in the NHL?

+Michalek. Got burnt for one goal against, but he was steady for the rest of the game and saved two sure things.

+Orpik. Confectionery foods were dispensed without monetary compensation and it was good.

+Martin. Didn’t notice him? That’s the point.

+Fleury. When he’s on he’s great. He’s on.

+Rupp. It pains me to say this: good game from Rupp.

"I thought Johnson and Vitale looked pretty good. They're 'tough to play against' and 'worked the corners well.'"

lol

How did Jeffrey get hurt?

Sterling and Craig looked good in the preseason, it was nice to see them perform well tonight.

+ to Ryan Craig, the call up who stepped in for Letang and dropped the gloves with Simmonds. Don't think many saw that coming, including myself.

+Michalek. He made as many big saves as Fleury did tonight. That's the Michalek I love to see out there.

+Fleury. He was the second best goalie tonight (after Michalek) and kept a depleted Pens' roster in the game all night.

+The WBS brigade. Great game by pretty much every one of our call-ups. They even chipped in with the opening goal.

+Staal. Our best remaining forward comes through with a monster effort in OT and scores the winner.

+The team. I'm just going to go ahead and give the rest of the guys not mentioned above a plus. They beat a pretty good LA team without pretty much their entire forward unit.

-This sets up the potential for a big disappointment if we don't follow up such a high tomorrow by losing to the Islanders.

And Sterling actually showed some skill in his nice snipe of a goal. Might have been the prettiest shot a Pens wingers has scored on all year. Wouldn't mind seeing him get the chance to show he can bring it game in and game out.

- Jeffrey hurt. Please be nothing serious, as i dont think we have anymore centers in WBS left. This keeps up and WBS dont have any players left, what happens?

+ Z played great and saved us twice.

Thought all the WBS kids played very well. Sad i dont think we ever be healthy enough to ever trade any of them though.

Remember when the Pens were the deepest team Center Wise?

+ Great game by some players that take way to much heat... Staal, Rupp, Goligoski, TK
+ Love that the Pens have all of these injuries but haven't changed a beat. Strong forcheck and strong play around MAF against a team thats really good at driving to the net
+ ZM... maybe his best game as a Pen
+ The kids looked great. Lots of smart, active play.

- Jeffrey getting hurt. He's been safe but he's been looking like a vet with surprisingly nifty passing. Hope he comes back soon.
- The Pens have to be smarter about how they get the puck deep. It shouldn't be about getting it to the end boards as much as getting it there and it leading to possession or a big hit.
- No Matt Cooke/ anti Pens threads on the main board

+ Big Z is a monster defensively

+ Staal coming up clutch

+ The taxi squad getting the job done

+ The PK continuing to come up big

+ MAF=MVP

+ Letang looked like he was starting to get his game back

+ Orpik piling up bodies

- Dupuis pulling up at the blue line every time entering the zone on the rush/making lazy half @$$ efforts on scoring chances.

- Goose didn't play a very good game

Meh.

Big scheme of things, this team has won 6 of their past 8 games, while surviving a rash of injuries.

Now they have to travel to New York and play in back-to-backs, with their backup goalie on top of that. All the while the Isles are chillin there and waiting on them.

In the big picture, it's not the worst thing in the world if the Pens lose tomorrow. It'd suck just based off of it being to a basement team, but tonight's win earns them enough good will in my book.

I'm not even sure we could get Pat Faloon for Dupuis.

Michalek's performance tonight really exemplifies just how important he is to this teams success. If not for him we lose in regulation. His positioning, his tenacity, his hockey IQ. This guy was a great signing, well done RS!

Thank you sir!

I remember Sterling getting some time with Sid in the preseason. He looked like Connor with a better shot but less tenacity.
